Yes there is some black smoke after extensive idling. I would imagine that rubbish diesel is the cause. The very same VGT engine has been around for a few years in Australia and Europe, so it is not new.
One should not sit in ones car on idle with the aircon on, like I do sometimes.
It is a waste of fuel and bad for the environment. Better get off your ass and help your wife bring out the groceries![]()
yes sir i have done it na po coz may casa called me yesterday tatawagan daw nila ako kung my solution na... may momodify daw sila sa CRDi niya~ and marami na kasi report about sa smoke ng monty which is not normal parang jeepeven our friends got disappointed sa usok ng monty.. pausokan nga kami ahahahha

Hi Guys,
At 1,500 kms ng aking GLS V ay 8.8-9.3km/liter sa Metro Manila while sa Highway 10-10.4 km/liter.
May white smoke sa umaga when the engine is cold, but haven't noticed excessive smoke while overtaking. Pag prolonged idling may slight black smoke ako na notice.

My GTV is doing 9km/L for 2000kms now(40km city and 40 km nlex daily driven). Medyo matipid na for me coz my fieldmaster is just 7km/L . My friend has a 2009 gls and is just 9km/L like my GTV
I am in the process of ordering a amp and sub woofer for my GTV. I just wanted to ask If the OEM Head Unit has a Subwoofer out??? Thank you in advance.
Don i like the effect sa antenna (foliatec) you used for your monty. i also bought one from concorde. however the one i got wala yung part na parang rubber ring base nang maganda fitting with the entire assembly. i'll appreciate it if you can help out. thank you in advance...![]()
guys, where exactly can you buy the foliatec antenna? i'm from northern luzon and i'm interested in getting one when i have my gtv monty next week. thanks.
i hope they already figured out the issue with black smoke before i get my new gtv monty next week. i'm sure it only need some tweeking on the fuel injection system.
elisher0210: thanks sir. please update us.
although many are not concerned or maybe did not notice it yet but i think this is a serious issue. modern DiD with vgt should not have blue smoke on idle, maybe black smoke when revving hard.
OT: mine has a DENR sticker nov 2010, are they testing all vehicles if they are eco friendly or just random.
sorry for the long post but it reminds me that maybe DENR is one agency that can confirm if there is new upcoming model. hehehe
Blue smoke. No blue smoke; it is black smoke.
I do not think it is a big deal.
It is probably combination of the bad diesel I bought in a provincial town and the auto climate control working full blast for 20 mins with window open (me smoking).
Black smoke is produced when you have bad diesel in a modern engine and/or there is too rich a mixture. Even Mercs and bmws emit this if you put your foot to the floor from low revs and the turbo is winding up. EGR help with this but do not totally eliminate it.
There is a small possibility that there is a problem with the egr/wasgate; but my guess is it is a combination of poor diesel, and extreme idling. I think the auto aircon controls idle speed as I did notice rev changes.
This morning after the car was cool enough and in the shade I idled it for 5 mins and there was no smoke. I had the aircon on full auto, but window closed so it wasn't on full power. A little puff came out as I accelerated away. Will wait until this tank of fuel gets very low and will then fill with a better diesel.
As for black smoke when accelerating; if it happens regularly, this means either you are not used to a modern a/t or you have a heavy foot
There is no need to put your foot right down (to kickdown) or anywhere near, just to go down one gear. A gentle touch will take it down. Let the engine catch up with the depression of your foot; so make a nice smooth acceleration. Anything else is a waste of fuel, with no real acceleration benefit.
Each A/T has different characteristics and I am not 100% at home with this one yet. But my last three cars were 5sp a/ts (one diesel) and I was always in the gear I wanted to be in.
Given time I will master it as will all of us, new to this model.
Happy Driving
