    Hey guys..

Been working on my first car for weeks now. Searched high and low for second hand sports cars but ultimately failed because of disappointments upon viewing the units. I figured I should just buy a Lancer EX 2010 because the style caught my eye... Aggressive. Within this week I'll buy a red one, so I want to ask some questions to you guys.

    1. Since the Lancer EX has a very sporty front lip bumper, is it still advisable to install whole body kits or should I just leave the front alone?
1a. What are some top-rated body kits that you can suggest for my Lancer?
    2. Is lowering the car advisable. I'm not really knowledgeable because this will be my first car but I've seen lowered cars and I really like the style.
2a. What are the disadvantages of lowered cars? If I install a body kit do I still need to lower the car?
    3. What other improvements can you suggest? I'm thinking of shelling out a budget of 50k above for improvements. I figured the neon lights under are cool to look out but I fear that it will easily be destroyed by low to mid level floods, or sometimes just muddy tracks.

Thanks guys! And thank you for your patience.

I forgot to note that I'm buying the GLS model, not the GT-A model.

    No neon lights. Period.

Cheap underbody neon looks tacky. And cheap. Good looking underbody lights cost an arm and a leg... and you'll need a full set of skirts to hide the tubes properly (if you don't hide them, it'll look twice as ugly). I've seen underbody neon done right... (I've also seen it done, more often, horribly, horribly wrong...) but your 50k won't be nearly enough to get the car looking good this way.

Don't lower it. The Lancer is low enough. And the ride comfort is already on the stiff side. Lowering it will just make it unbearable. Don't mess with a car's suspension unless you're willing to spend the money to do it right (getting a good set of lowering springs and a set of performance shock absorbers).

Me? I'd spend the 50k on a nice exhaust and a Unichip. Give the car some extra poke and power. But that's just me. If you want it to look better, go ahead and get a GT style body-kit at a local shop. I'm pretty sure Starbright or A-Toy will have a set, already. Then save up some more for some 17" mags.

Or contrawise, spend it on those 17" mags and an interior leather upgrade at a good seat-shop.

Thanks niky. Noted on the neon lights. (!)

I don't think I'll mess with the interior that much during the first year, after all it's a brand new car. What I'm after is the looks. Like I said, I'm not really that of a car buff and I'm just starting out but on my way to work saw a Honda Civic that stood out. It had really nice mags (I think it's colored bronze or something), it seemed to be lowered, and had a nice body kit. I was awed and I thought that I did not need an expensive sports car to have that wow factor.

How much of a difference would an 18" to 17" have? I'm thinking of going 18.

Didn't know the Lancer is low enough. Will re-consider my lowering plans.

Low enough is merely my opinion... but it is going to look lower if you have the same mags and body kit as the GTA.

I've had lowered cars in the past... and they're usually a pain in the ass. They scrape over bumps... which means you have to be ridiculously careful in driving down subdivision streets... they grind their chins coming down parking ramps and on those low parking lot curbs... and sometimes even bottom out over big potholes.

I'd do the bodykit and wheels first. Then, if you're not satisfied, think about lowering it.

The stock 17" wheels on the Lancer GTA are already borderline in terms of comfort. But they have enough rubber on them that you won't damage them very much over potholes or when you accidentally scrape against a curb. 18" rubber requires thinner tires... and that will require great care and caution when driving down the street. Watch out for those killer potholes on EDSA... those square-edged drain covers at the C5-Kalayaan U-turn overpass... or those sharp-edged pits on Quirino Avenue... It's worse when it rains, because you won't see them coming...

Another issue is tires. The bigger your wheels, the more expensive the rubber. You have to factor that into your buying decision when getting the mags (50k is more than enough for 17" mags and rubber if you're getting ROTA and regular sports tires... it won't be enough for 18" mags and the same tires in the bigger size).

That said: 18" wheels look fantastic on the Lancer. They should. They cost an arm and a leg.

Hey niky.. Again, thanks for the quick input.

After what you've typed, I'll definitely do the body kit and wheels first. Now I understand it, once you're equipped with a nice kit you wouldn't need to lower the car because it would look lower/ed.

If it looks fantastic, then I'd save up for the 18 definitely. Maybe 6 months in, I'd start making my move. Would you be kind enough though to give me a rough estimate on how much it would cost?

Thanks again for all your input.

Haven't bought mags for a loooong time. Probably time for me to update myself on prices tomorrow.

17" mags, local ones by ROTA, should cost around 30k. (last I looked last year, it was around 27k) 18" should cost around 35-40k. You can get secondhand for cheaper, or refurbished even, but it's up to you... lots of places to shop. Tires are the biggies. 17" sports tires from a major brand will cost around 6k or more per piece. For 18" wheels, I don't know, but I can get a cost estimate.

You can go cheaper on the tires with Federal 595 SS or Kumho ECSTA SPT. May be noisier than a premium tire, but will be a lot cheaper. Don't settle for Yokohama DNA dBs. Those tires are terrible. If you want a Yokohama tire, the Advan A310 that comes as stock on the Lancer EX GTA is actually decent. If you can find a guy with a GTA who's upgraded and willing to sell his mags and tires... jackpot! (buy them... use them... if you're not satisfied with them... sell them and buy your 18s when you have enough money...)

The bodykit, you'll have to call up Starbright and A-Toys and ask if they have a set for the Lancer EX already. I suppose they'll have something that will fit your 50k budget, with some left over to go to your savings for the mags. ;)

    hello sirs,

im also interested in the 2010 lancer ex GLS. last time i checked, mitsubishi alabang still didnt have one in their showroom so i havent seen the actual unit.

ano po ba difference ng 2010 lancer ex GLS sa 2009 model?

and nagkaroon ba talaga ng price reduction dahil locally assembled na?

    sorry kung medyo OT

Stock GTA mags is 18", IMO salpakan mo muna ng 18' then wait and see. Tingin ko basta maganda mags mo kahit wala nang spoilers at body kits basta laging malinis gwapo na yung ride mo.

Call them up again and look for Erl. By today, he'll have info on the colors available for purchase. I asked for the Red, so mag White ka nalang.

Dayumn... forgot the GTA had 18s. I take it back... 18s on the GTA have enough rubber to survive daily use. You'll still have to take it easy on bumpy roads, but that's it.

But that's still your ticket. a set of secondhand 18" wheels with tires from a GTA owner who's trading up to aftermarket mags will be cheaper than a brand-new set of 18" mags with tires.

Yeesh. Hard to get used to these new cars and their huge wheel wells. 17" will look just right on the Lancer, but might not satisfy the urge... Bodykit nga muna... hintay hintay lang sa mags... but be ready to buy when you find a good deal.

nice, do this and your warranty in your engine will also blow up.Have been on a CASA before to do my PMS and seen a client almost in knees hearing that adding an aftermarket turbo voided their warranty.

Just wait till the 100,000KM or 3yrs and you can do anything on your car's engine.

As for the looks, i've already quoted for front and side skirt (carbon fiber) and it costs 28 to 35k.

The difference with the Lancer EX 2009 and 2010 models is the front grill/bumper treatment.

The 2009 units had a body colored horizonal "bar".

The 2010 models have it converted to EVO-X style grill/bumper style.

Instead of lowering the Lancer EX GLS, I suggest getting the side skirts of the GT/GT-A models for your car. There are a number of shops who can do a decent copy of the side skirts.

And while you are getting the skirts, you could also get the front bumper chin as well to get the GT look.
