1995 Galant VR4 automatic transmission problem

Hi,

I own a vr4 95 galant, problem is, sometimes the transmission won't engage from 2nd to 3rd, sometimes even requiring a 5K to 6K RPM before engaging to the next gear. Minsan naman, ok ang shifting from 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th, but mas madalas na hindi sya nagshi2ft agad.
Usually, around 3K na RPM, but 60 kph pa lang ang takbo ko, so you could imagine how stress the engine is, pati na sa fuel consumption.

What do you guys recommend na magandang gawin dito?
Will changing ATF and filter help?
Or is this a pending sign of a transmission that is about to fail.

The 95 Galants and Lancers were notorious for being lemons. Especially for the tranny. It will only go up to 2nd gear and stay there. Geesh.. how despicable isn't it!

A high percentage of the 94 to 96 auto-tranny Galant and Lancer owners I know had to replace the transmission within 3 years to the tune of P80,000 . Hehe, unfortunately, our Philippine consumers are not protected by the anti-lemon law like in other countries, so there was no recall made. tsk tsk.

I used to own a 94 VR6 and the car went completely crap on me. Suspension, alternator, engine management system, you name it. It stayed in the garage more than I used it. It was a modern day Ford Edsel.

There's gossip that there was a labor strike back in 93 or 94 led to somebody outsourcing the creation of these trannys to sub-standard workers . I don't know how true that is, and it doesn't really matter.

My tip to you, sell the car and sell it quickly.

we own a 97 galant ss, ang problem namin is,pa sobrang mabilis ang speed is biglang bagsak sa 3rd gear then it wont shift na.. even if ilagay mo sa neutral.. what we did is naglagay kami ng sariling oil cooler para sa tranny. medyo na lesseng yung problm.. you should replace your tranny if you have budget or you can by pass na lang para gawin manual..
