Calderon wants Razon as next PNP chief

By CECILLE SUERTE FELIPE
The Philippine Star
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Calderon wants the police force’s second-in-command, Deputy Director General Avelino Razon Jr., to be his successor when he retires in October upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.
"We (in the PNP) are comfortable with Gen. Razon," Calderon said. "As far as I am concerned, it’s Gen. Razon (as the next PNP chief). The most logical choice is Gen. Razon, who is a member of (Philippine Military Academy or PMA) Class 74."
Calderon is a member of PMA Class 73 and Razon’s senior in the academy.
Calderon, who still has nearly two months in office before his retirement, admitted that there were some police officials trying to lobby and get President Arroyo’s nod to become the next PNP chief.
"I heard about it (lobbying by a few police officials), let them do their work. But we will support whoever is the choice of President Arroyo. We don’t want to pre-empt the decision of the President," he said.
Even Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno has indicated that Razon is his choice to replace Calderon.
"When Gen. Razon is appointed, the deputy will be removed from his rank," Puno said. This would make Razon a four-star general, a rank held by Calderon.
Puno has also offered Calderon an undersecretary post at the DILG once the PNP chief retires from police service.
"We are happy to have Gen. Calderon as one of our undersecretaries here at the DILG," said Puno, who vouched for the qualification of Calderon to any post in the government.
Calderon thanked Puno for the "trust and confidence" given him. It was gathered that Puno gave his all-out support to Calderon when Mrs. Arroyo chose him to be the PNP chief last July 2006.
"It’s been an honor and a pleasure to work with Sec. Puno. I thank him for the trust and confidence he has given me. I am willing to serve as part of the official family of President Arroyo on whatever capacity I can," Calderon told The STAR.
Calderon has a good report card for the first year of his term, with a significant decrease in all forms of crime, ranging from kidnapping, street crimes and bank robberies.

I think Razon deserves to be the next PNP Chief. I am satisfied with his performance when he was the WPD Chief.

This is a long overdue, matagal na nasa limelight si Gen. Razon, kaya nga lang nauna mga senior sa kanya sa academy. He has a good record and accomplishment. I say he is the man to be the highest officer of the PNP.

i dont want to sound sour graping over pmayers. but the truth is, sila sila nalang dyan. when was the last you heard a non-pmayer as pnp chief. NONE. take the case of abarsoza at wpd. he is the choice of mayor lim, as admitted by the mayor himself. however, as expected, rosales came in and simply told everybody that he was groomed to be wpd chief as early as 2004.(PDI.09/21/07). ganyan nalang ba yan? sabi ni kim atienza, weather-weather lang yan. problem is,until when. even retired pmayers are recycled in the government. we have lose count on their number but theyre more than 200 as of the last count by PCIJ 5 years ago. what im driving at, it is a stumbling block for young and talented people to show their worth. pinipigilan nila. of course, there are exemptions on this. some of them resigned from the service, di na rin nila matiis ang ginagawa ng mga kasama nila.

Some PMA mistahs calling on Razon to resign as PNP chief

By Alcuin Papa, Marlon Ramos
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 07:45:00 02/15/2008

MANILA, Philippines -- A letter asking Director General Avelino Razon to resign as chief of the Philippine National Police is making the rounds among graduates of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), the Philippine Daily Inquirer learned Thursday.
But the PMA graduates, called Cavaliers, interviewed by the Inquirer said the call for Razon to resign was not because the PNP chief was perceived to be incompetent or corrupt.
Rather, the call is for Razon, a member of the PMA Class of 1974, to resign and “protect his integrity” amid allegations the PNP was actively engaged in efforts to cover up the real events related to the arrival of Rodolfo Noel Lozada Jr. from abroad last week.
“We are disappointed and sad with how the incident besmirched Sonny’s integrity as a person, a Cavalier and a police officer. He should resign now and show he cannot be used by this government,” said one senior Cavalier, who refused to be identified to protect his identity. “Sonny” is Razon’s nickname.
“Everybody knows his (Razon’s) good reputation. He should preserve that and resign. He is retiring soon as Chief PNP anyway. He can walk away now for the good of the country,” said the senior Cavalier, who said he has read the letter.
Razon found himself in the middle of a storm when it was revealed that policemen picked up Lozada from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Tuesday and whisked him away from the prying eyes of the media who were waiting to interview the key witness in the scrapped National Broadband Network (NBN) deal
Dapat na nga mag resign, at sabihin na hindi na nya kaya ipagtakpan ang gusto ng Malacanang Hero rin siya pag ginawa niya yan

You should've listened to his interview 2 weeks ago in DZMM's Dos por Dos. The poor guy was lying through his teeth when he proclaimed that it was Jun Lozada who gave a written request for protection upon arriving at the airport. Tapos naiba storya at naging ang kapatid na ang humingi ng protection daw. What he couldn't explain was:

1. The wording of the letter which went something like, "please provide protection upon my arrival on __________".

2. Why the letter was simply addressed to Razon as "Sonny" if they did not know eachother personally.

Resign ka nalang Razon before you lose whatever respect your men have left in you.

Hmm seems like even the military is not stable now. I don't think GMA will finish her term.
