Wireless Disconnection Problem

mga techies dyan, hope you can help me out...

my wireless connection disconnects itself after 5-10 minutes. what's worse, the network adapter (intel 3945 proset wireless) gets disabled and the only way to enable it is to re-boot the notebook. im using windows xp SP2, got a linksys router. here are the things ive done, but still didnt solve the problem:

- updated the driver of the 3945 to newer version
- installed the latest version intel pro wireless software, used it to control wireless connection, but got an error message 'Problem applying profile' when i tried to re-connect
- changed adapter settings, set them all to highest values (as per Intel's suggestion on Power Save Polling problem), uncheck the 'Allow Windows to power off this adapter' option
- disabled the Intel software, used windows to control wireless connection
- disabled windows firewall and norton internet security
- uninstalled the intel wireless software, windows has sole control over wireless connection
- installed a windows XP hotfix patch 893357 (hoping this would solve my problem)

any suggestions out there? 'langya gusto ko na sunugin itong notebook na ito! :mad:

try mo install the driver from ur notebooks website, mine works from intel sites new driver worst from asus old drivers...

dami talaga sakit sa ulo ang Wifi, thats why i sold my wifi setup last year and went back to wired network. walang sakit sa ulo at super bilis pa. my supplier friend once told me that its in the nature of wifi to be disconnected from time to time..add to that the software and hardware problems that crops up from time to time...ugh

try mo update yung firmware ng router and check the settings also.

odd... i've never had any problems with my wireless connections at all. With different notebooks or desktops even (Dell, IBM, Apple, Clones, etc.) and even different routers / ap's (Linksys, Asus, Apple, Dlink, etc.) and even different OS's (Win2k / XP / OSX ).

i think it depends on the type of usage, my wifi setup was for a Retail POS network and the network cannot afford to have even 1 second of downtime..yes the wifi will reconnect itself after a few seconds but we cannot afford that kind of reliability. we have to have continuous uninterrupted network connection.

my bro uses a wifi network for his DSL connection at home and he could afford the occasional disconnections since the network restores itself.

ah a POS system... much more reliable indeed for a wired connection. i thought it was just plain browsing or games.

but i'd think a few tweeks would still make the wirless solution workeable.

Ever since ganyan na siya or recently lang lumabas ang ganyang problema? Have you tried to reset the router kapag nawawalan ng connection. Research mo yung router model mo, baka may issues with regards to wifi connections. Also try removing temporarily yung mga security settings nung router just to see if anything would change.

- laklak : ever since i got my asus notebook ganito na e. im thinking baka hindi compatible yung router ko sa wireless card ??? ill check the router settings too.

- the rest: salamat sa mga suggestions/replies, ill try to fix my connection again tonite. hopefully this thing gets fixed. oks lang sana kung na-cu-cut ang connection, pero naka-disable na yung network adapter afterwards, di ako maka-reconnect unless mag-reboot at this point when i do a shut-down, pati yon nag-ha-hang...i have to turn-off the notebook via the power button, wait 10 secs, then reboot. kakainis!

actually naexperience ko na yung bumagal ang downloading or worst no more data to be receive/upoad but still the icon is ON, the driver was came from the CD, so temporary solution is FN+F2 wireless ON/OFF

so i download a new driver from intel and it works well, also try previous drivers from intel...

ive got the new intel driver but it fails to solve the problem like the older driver. it could be the router needs a firmware upgrade, ill check it out.

does that FN+F2 radio switch have the priority over the Wireless On-Off toggle in windows? i noticed kasi naka 'red' yung wifi icon (off) sa taskbar pero gumagana yung wireless (kasi naka-on sa windows). im thinking baka me conflict between these two. is there a way to disable the FN+F2 button sa asus? thanks!

i don't know how to disable FN+F2

I have two computers networked to two more PCs via WiFi to my router. No disconnection problems encountered. I even stream video to one of them.

yup i have watched/streamed gigs of videos before in our office wifi network, the problem is in the 10 hours of connection, the wifi network cant seem to maintain an uninterrupted connection..some days it would work perfectly but 2 out of 10 days something will go wrong and there would be random but rare disconnections and as i said, thats a BIG NO NO in a Retail POS network..imagine your cashiers suddenly getting disconnected to the server (a nightmare during peak hours)..it must be a 100% perfect connection which a wired network can only provide.

a96 ba yung asus mo? sinetup ko kasi yung home wireless network nung pinsan ko before and yung laptop nya is an asus a96 ata. Ang ginamit ko pang control nung wireless settings nya ay yung sa win xp, nahihirapan kasi akong i configure yung software mismo ng asus.

tsaka 802.11 b & g ba yung router mo? Wifi cards na binebenta ngayon ay backward compatible to 802.11 b, as far as i know.

alin po ba ang na didisable? the hardware itself in the device manager? or just simple disconnection from the wireless network? if the hardware itself does, might be a prob with the adapter; have you tried connecting to other wireless networks/hotspots?

what's the model no. of your router (check underneath) with the exact version?

**i work for linksys in-house support; let me check if we have issues with that model no.; might be able to give you beta firmware.

Never had that experience in my Dlink router and Mac notebook. pero kahit mga intel pro wireless ay di ko din na e-experience yan. baka yung router mo ang me defect?

i'm new with laptops...i got an acer laptop...there's a bluetooth and wifi toggle switch infront...

question 1 -- should the indicator (orange led) for the wi-fi be off when builtin wireless is disabled? coz mine just goes steadily lit when disabled and flashing if enabled.

question 2 -- features of the laptop did not include bluetooth, but then may toggle switch den infront just beside the wifi, could this just be a provision for bluetooth at kailngan paren ng adapter? i just won't light up even when i installed an adapter although the BT adapter works. hmm...
