Why do most Filipino couples I see on dates seat next to each other if they can

I find it weird too.

I sit across the table all the time. It's also an awkward position to have a conversation while sharing a meal and be sitting next to each other.

I like having my personal space

Yes I agree but it builds up more when the couple keeps their hands off of each other in public.
