Why are bras designed to open/closed from the back? Isn't it much easier to have the latch or hooks located at the front for better access and easier to see?

    to make it stronger structurally.

the latch is a weak link in the support system.

Designers should also think of a push-button.

not really, latches can be made pretty strong yet lightweight. Examples are the quick release systems used for bags, celfones, etc.

The fact is those hook type cannot take the same amount of load as more modern type of latching.

My guess would be twofold: Aesthetics and Ergonomics.

Aesthetics is self-explanatory... less bulge in the area between the cups makes it more sleek (and ***y).

Ergonomics because, you cannot put adjustable latches/hooks up front as this would change the distance between the cups. The said distance should remain constant to maintain the proper breast profile (just made that up) even if the wearer needs to readjust the bra's tightness for proper fit.
