this is so true. disconnect mo muna ung pc, install the latest os patches, then install antivirus and firewall kaagad before reconnecting

unless the requirements of the job is IE, don't use IE. a long time ago, IE beat Navigator hands down; these days it's the reverse. And IE hasn't been updated in a long time -- ung Firefox e every few months me bagong version.

IE does load faster on windows pcs though. can you say "anti-trust"?

..same with Outook/Outlook Express. ThunderBird ka na lang. it'll save you a lot of headaches.

Oz, IE6 shouldn't behave like that even if you installed YM wt voice. I got of the laptops that I use for the office configured for YM wt voice. I use IE6 as the browser (I don't have any choice, company policy, evenn though 90% of the people at work knows IE6 sucks) and it works just fine.

Buti naayos kaagad problem mo, magiisip pa naman sana ako ng troubleshooting steps... hehe, trabaho ko kasi tech support sa ISP (sa call center), araw-araw puro internet related issues inaayos ko...

Ok naman yung IE as a browser, nde ganun kadali magkaroon ng spyware. Kelangan pa rin ng user interaction to get the actual spyware app installed. Most of the time there is a prompt before the spyware gets installed, either within the browser or when installing 3rd party apps. Kahit wala rin antivirus at firewall ok lang rin yung pc, actually mas mabilis talaga pag walang av/fw. Sa laptop ko nde na ako naginstall ng ganun, yun lang nga tech ako kaya more or less alam ko mga ins and outs ng pc the same way you guys know about cars.

dasal ka nawalang IE exploit tatama sa computer mo, i can tell you first hand that Mozilla is way secure than IE, kaya nakaka leche leche ang windows dahil sa IE kasi yung IE, naka embedded sa OS tas yung IE gumagamit ng nakapa unsecure na Activex.

    pagmay activex/IE vulnerability, damay OS,

san ka nanakita surf ka lang, malalgayan ng keylogger computer mo wala user intervention.

well, at least try it(FireFox) out. wala talaga akong tiwala sa M$ pagdating sa security. they've openly admitted that features are their priority, not security.

In IE, pwede disable Active X...

I've used mozilla and firefox long before many of you probably even heard of it, I must say it is very good. The extensions and themes are a nice touch also. Tabs are good too. But for whatever reason I always go back to using internet explorer. Netscape is also good.

Sorry OT question: What firewall do you guys use?

IMO, if your gonna use XP, make sure you get SP2 or else you'll run into security problems. Much better if you can get XP with SP2 bundled in.

    OT

Dun sa office: ISA (serverside). Tapos, may hardware firewall pa kami. And, just so that our IT geeks (pardon the French) are content and happy, we have Sygate firewall on our clients. Windows XP Prof, all SPs installed.

Sa bahay:Yung laptop, Windows XP Prof, all SPs installed. Using Sygate Professional firewall. Yung desktop, naka-Linux eh kaya walang SPs. I created the firewall for my Linux box using TIS Firewall Toolkit.
