What are you thinking about?
The other day, it seems that a colleague on this forum took one of my posts too literally and insinuated that I was one of the “internet savants” that I would often rile against on the forum.
I was actually taken aback and dismayed,
because how could one conclusively defend himself from such an accusation, without disclosing personal details for all to see on a public forum? Upload my PRC license? Disclose details of my practice for a bunch of internet strangers to oggle? Of course not. I value my privacy.
I even angrily considered challenging the colleague to immediately conduct an on the spot
revalida for the undersigned concerning medical knowledge (my school had one)... Not on topics whose answers can be readily found online, but those which answers can (probably) be found online, but will take an inordinate amount of time for a layman to answer… as well as on industry practices/problems that can only be known to one in the profession (which is not on the internet). To be answered immediately, and as fast as one could type.
But doing such a “show”, though a series of posts, in front of a gawking audience and to their amusement, would cheapen the profession in the eyes of the public. If it would be in front of peers pwede pa.

So what next? Start trading barbs because they are strangers and one distrusts the other? Hindi na. Pangit tignan although professional conflicts in hospital/clinic settings are quite commonplace.
I sought to shine a little light in the forum with my views on the evils of racism and by trying to quell overhyped fears on this current global health crisis, and I may have offended some by doing so, but I guess the best venue for that would be here in the REAL world, where I can put my little knowledge and skills to good use. “Walking the talk”. I won’t look back after this final post.
Why bother writing this and not just walk away? After all, who are these people anyway (who seem to spend too much time on the internet)? Maliit lang naman kasi ang mundo. Someday, you might run into a younger colleague at some medical convention. If he seems to like cars, and ask him “Are you underneath the Gastroc?” He may just give you a wink.
