Please mistake us promdis not for being highfalutin nor pretentious or worse...offending. Tagalog to the native may be easy peasy.....it really isn't for the hard-tongued. Perfectly fine being the joke......just not the misunderstood.[emoji120][emoji111][emoji4]

You mean a grant? You don't have to pay back a grant. But, you do have some requirements and obligations such as maintaining a certain GPA. You also have to reapply every year. If you break one of those, you may have to pay back some or all of the grant.

You can apply so long as you're a US citizen or a permanent resident (Green Card holder), I think. It's a lot of paperwork and constant checking for changes in the rules. But, hey. It beats paying out of my own pocket.

Learn the system, take advantage of it.

Also...... I read somewhere many grants are for those first-timers who have never earned a Bachelor degree. If you're say, a Pinoy who already has a degree from the PH, you may have to look harder for a grant you qualify for.

He might mean student loan, sir. They're offered to eligible foreign students in the US.

So Grant is another word for a scholarship. Nice to know there are other means of getting financial assistance aside from the dreaded loan.

Yup. There are some differences, mainly in how and why they are awarded. But, boiling things down, same function and no need to pay them back.

Grants & work, at times, may not be sufficient. That's where loans come in.

That's uncommon nga I think because Filipino parents in the US (at least those I know) paid for their children's college education

Nope. It's especially more expensive for those who are from out of state, often 3x the cost of those who are residents of the state the university is at. Since my daughter doesn't pay for room and board, she gets by.

If I was still young and going to college for the first time, I'd probably pick a trade school instead of a university.

When I visited there a few years ago, I wore a plain t-shirt, shorts, ankle socks, worn out sneakers, cheap watch, and my total luggage was one backpack. I looked like a penniless hippie.

Curious if this will work. I don't usually use garlic if not adobo for the sole reason of matagal balatan. [emoji848]

Walking outside for half a mile within the suburbs? Bad idea. You don't know what kind of freaks or misfits are out there. Do you see others strolling outside? Maybe if you live within a subdivided community or a residential complex.

It's better that you drive to a nearby park and take your walking there. At least, there are other people around.

Really? Yes, within the suburbs. Our house is half a mile from Target etc. Sanay kasi ako maglakad sa Manila even late at night.

Wala nga tao sa streets and I thought that's supposed to be safe Good thing you told me because I thought my Uncle and Aunt are over reacting by not letting me walk alone.
