Bakit mahal na mahal ng mga Ilocano si Marcos?

Been in Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur for several days now and naikot ko na halos lahat ng bayan. Lahat rural pa rin.

Even Vigan and Laoag are pretty backward compared to other regional centers. Roads are also in perpetual construction, par for the course with all other provincial roads.

What they have a lot of are monuments and museums, in typical Marcos edifice complex.

Comparing directly to Bicol, since they are both far ends of Luzon, the region hasn't had any tyrannical dictator to back it up yet hindi naman lamang ang Ilocos. I'd say Bicol is even more progressive because it has more equitable wealth distribution. In Ilocos, majority of businesses are owned by a select few, in typical crony fashion. Bicol also has Ayala and SM in Legazpi and Naga respectively. And to think, Bicol is hard-hit by storms on an annual basis.

Wow, really? I would've thought some of the plunder would've trickled down to the loyalists through the years. Local businessmen should know the reason why developers aren't too keen in investing there.

Cronyism and protectionism probably.

There's a Robinson's in Laoag but that's it. Even when it comes to cars, very few people drive SUVs and new cars. Mostly older secondhand vehicles.

Could be just the Ilocano thriftyness, but I think it's more of the lack of purchasing power since there doesn't seem to be a big middle class segment.

i'm one Ilocano who don’t have any affection to this political clan. your observation on the countryside development is spot on and this is the same gripe I’m saying to friends what these guys have done during their reign.
meron akong kausap na SBM sa municipality namin during one school recognition rites we both attended as guests tungkol yung state ng aming bayan at probinsya. sabi ko wala man lang kasing factories o industrial sector na magbibigay ng trabaho sa mga local boys dito sa atin. dugtong ko pa, paano na kung matutuloy ang federalism na isinusulong ni pdiggy? saan na kayo kukuha ng pondo pag konti lang ang revenue natin? kaya yung mga graduates ko sa aking training center ay sa Subic at Technopark ko pa ipinapadala para magtrabaho.

Possible rin na smoker lang yung owner ng car who doesn't care about the smell of his new car kasi he's used to the smell of smoke already.

Oo nga saan ba nagsimula mga joke sa mga province... Pag ilocano daw yung bente pesos daw sa wallet eh sa sobrang hindi ginagamit eh ang lutong pa daw kahit years na.

Tapos yun mga joke pag pampangueno dito talaga grabe as in wag daw mag-asawa ng kapampangan.

It seems like Uber's service is deteriorating I was really surprised that the Uber I rode smelled of cigarette smoke and shaldan. It was dirty too (used tissue on the seat, trash on the floor) One of the reasons why I would rather walk than take public transpo is it's often madumi. Uber's cars are ALWAYS clean until my recent experience. But the drivers are always nice naman. Yun nga lang umuubo yung driver ko, ayoko tuloy huminga, baka may TB hahaha
