The common foot-soldier isn't a fair comparison to a cop. They have more rigorous training, dangerous jobs and pathetic pay.

When we used to hang out at Fort Boni (my Uncle-in-Law's officer's housing was there before), I was impressed by the Marines under his command. Physically fit and disciplined, and they had one heck of a stage band at the time (though nowhere near as impressive as the Navy's Brass Band).

Our Scout Rangers, someone should write a book about them. Scout Rangers are the stuff of legends, playing dangerous odds against guerilla forces and surviving on their own in the jungle for long periods of time.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

What do you think of the Phil. Army?
Capable but too often neglected. For a first line of defense, they deserve better.

That probably goes for the rest of the AFP too. The PAF is probably in the worst shape of all.

had a friend who did a short time on the Phil Army and this story he swears is true

a fellow soldier friend told him about an anting anting his father gave him before he applied in the army, his father told him to never open the piece of paper till he most badly needs it in a firefight. Soon enough that time came when they encountered a heavy number of insurgents and he remembered what his father told him, so he quickly opened the piece of paper thinking what anting anting his father gave him and read...

    "Magtago ka anak!!!"

he even showed the worned out paper to my friend

lower ranking PAF's = they should be paid fairly.
Top ranking officials? = f%#*$k, remember Gen. Garcia? He stole millions of pesos or even dollars from Phil Military Acct. and was sentenced to only 2 years behind bars in Hard Labor kuno (this i don't believe). This money should have been used to buy military issues or build Public Schools, etc, etc. haaaayyyy...

Phil. Army or AFP personnel = the very definition of real life heroes. I'm a little biased here because I grew up inside a military camp (Ft. Bonifacio before the govt sold it to for development on what is now Boni. Global City) plus my father is a retired Army officer.

I can still vividly remember during my growing up years (this was mid 70's up to early 80's) the number of dead soldiers coming in and out of the St Michael's chapel, malapit lang kasi house namin dito eh. It was so many, everyday meron patay na sundalong dumadating sa Chapel (this was the time when the Muslim seccessionist movement and NPA/communist insurgency is at its worst). Almost lahat ng neigbors namin has lost a son or father because of these insurgencies. Its a good thing my father was already retired when these insurgencies flared up.

Bata pa ako noon kaya di ko naisip, pero when I think about it now, it pains me very much and almost makes me cry.
So many wasted lives, so many windowed wives, so many orphaned children, so many mothers losing their sons. For what? For depending our people, the constitution and the government. And the irony of it, kapwa pilipino ang kalaban nila.

Anyway, kahit ex-army officer tatay ko, my favorite among afp's branch of service is still the Philippine Marines. The Marines are the epitome of toughness and discipline.

What do I think? Our boys are brave but poorly led and suffering low morale because of their corrupt leaders.

Brave? ..They slug it out there in the battlefields with worn out boots no decent barracks, not sure if they get evacuated if hit, they also know that the very same army theyr'e fighting for are the suppliers of their enemy, low pay. But theyre still there. Brave boys indeed
