In the 80s up until the early 90s, smokers were not at all discriminated It was commonplace to smoke indoors even in airconditioned areas. I could even remember having ashtrays in areas at home though none in our household smoked. It was for visitors. Smoking was also allowed inside campus and the office. Now it is considered rude to smoke in common areas.

At my former office, before they renovated in the mid 00s, people could smoke while they were working. In my college (late 90s to early 00s), they allowed smoking anywhere outside the classroom (while some profs allowed inside the classroom). Now may designated areas nalang.
