im following the live audio feed from Boston Police, Fire and EMS radio.

shots fired in MIT campus. 1 MIT PO already down. i think another one went down. suspect/s have long guns and grenades. all units are being ordered to retreat.

edit: this is surreal, like following an old fashioned radio drama.

looks like not all suspects are in custody yet. i can hear active shooting in the background.

from what i'm hearing right now there are 2 shooters, 1 has been caught (white guy, brown hair) and still on the hunt for the 2nd shooter.

A Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer was shot and killed on campus late Thursday night.

The officer was responding to a report of a disturbance when he was shot multiple times, Middle*** Acting District Attorney Michael Pelgro and Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert Haas stated.

According to authorities, the officer was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The name of the officer has not been released at this time. There are no other victims in the incident.

In a statement released to the press, Massachusetts State Police said no arrests have been made and a search for a suspect or suspects is ongoing.

Shortly after 1 a.m. on Friday morning, a second shooting incident was reported in Watertown, Mass.

Shortly after the shooting occurred, MIT's website posted a notice to students that gunshots were reported in the vicinity of Building 32 in the Stata Center of the campus. School authorities asked students to stay clear of the area while the investigation was underway.

MIT's emergency system also sent the following text to students:

The Twitter account for MIT's student newspaper, The Tech, also sent a notice urging students to stay inside.

According to HuffPost's Michael McLaughlin, reporting from the ground, "About two dozen cops and detectives are clustered in an area south of Main St., a short distance from crime scene tape," with more police continuing to arrive by car.

i'm listening on web feeds since im in the office. for mobile you can check 5-0 Police Scanner app for iphone, or Scanner Radio app for android.

most of the action has died down - it has now become a manhunt for the last suspect. it was quite chaotic earlier since the suspects were being pursued in the dark; shots were fired plus IEDs involved. there was also more chatter on the radio before the majority of police units moved to a different channel.
