One thing to note about Low Pressure systems...... When there's too many of them in close proximity, they tend to kill each other because of the shear.

For a Low Pressure system to mature into a typhoon, it needs a long stretch of nice (clear) hot weather ahead of it.

    Is this close enough?

There's also a cyclonic (counterclockwise) wind flow over Taiwan. That counts as a Low. But, that will move west and weaken fairly quickly.

Anyway, the PH will be at the shear line between the system near Vietnam and the one east of the PH. The PH will be relatively calm with most rains due to differential heating and monsoon flow. In the short term, the system to the east will remain weak and somewhat stationary because of the shear. It's not going anywhere until the system near Vietnam weakens.

Toward the latter part of next week, the relative calm over Taiwan and the PH will cause the sea surface to warm up again (more fuel). Plus, the system over Vietnam weakens enough to allow western movement of the system east of the PH. But, the strongest shear will still be over the PH. The best place (of least resistance) for the eastern system to track is toward Taiwan rather than Luzon.

Of course, tropical systems are the most frustrating to forecast for. I've been wrong a few times before. But, all my miscues have been where the weather turned out better than expected. I can live with those. In this case, I was obviously looking at forecast charts. If this was my place of work, I wouldn't look beyond two days out. But, it's not. So, it's okay.

My pamangkin shared this post, in light of all the drama on SC regarding #WalangPasok:

    One mayor posted :

"Tuwing me bagyo lang, tsaka nyo ako naaalala."

    To which one responded:

"Mayor, tuwing eleksyon lang, tsaka nyo kami naaalala."
