The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) raised public storm signal No. 1 in 12 areas in Luzon and Visayas Saturday, as a low-pressure area (LPA) intensified into a tropical depression named “Bebeng.”
MANILA, Philippines – As of 10 a.m., tropical depression Bebeng was located 180 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph). PAGASA said the weather disturbance is moving northwest at 13 kph.
Signal No. 1 was raised in Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Albay, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Masbate, Ticao Island, Burias Islands, Polillo Island, Leyte, Samar provinces, and Biliran Island.
If it does not change course, Bebeng is expected to be 50 kilometers north of Virac, Catanduanes today, 80 kilometers northwest of Casiguran, Aurora Monday, and 200 kilometers north-northwest of Laoag City on Tuesday.
The Bicol region and Eastern Visayas will experience rains with gusty winds and rough seas due to the storm. (Ellalyn B. de Vera)Last edited by ghosthunter; May 7th, 2011 at 10:26 PM.
