Pinoys complain too much. In Singapore and South Korea, mandatory service is required for all when you are 18.

the philippine concept of a citizen's army (required rotc) was macarthur's idea, back in the day.
personally, i believe rotc helps build character.
i vote for putting it back as a requirement.
Our M1s were complete sans the firing pins. This made "Siyasat, ta!" commands very satisfying until someone's thumb gets caught in the action. That spring is nasty! Those things are heavy too!
NCOs and COs were trained to assemble and reassemble it along with an M14 and M16. Didn't get a chance to go firing though

2 years of extensive drills with the honor guard battalion made it worth while during ROTC. Even more so with the required silent drill performance during key events.
However, it was more fun running around for a few days in the hills and grasslands of Fort Magsaysay. We sleep in foxholes and a bath was a luxury. The straps of our packs dig into our shoulders while walking and running for hours. The company radio is a b1&ch to carry. It was good I had an M16 as those given M14s complain how uncomfortable it is to run around with.

Yep ang gaan ng M16. Kaya pala Barbie gun ang tawag.

the handgrip of the m-16 was indeed manufactured by the toy manufacturer, mattell. its logo was on the handgrip, and thus was born the joke that the m-16 was manufactured by the toy manufacturer.
to boost morale, they removed the logo later.
but the rest of the gun was by colt.
heh heh.
mattell also manufactured the barbie dolls.

The 5.56mm rounds it use is quite lethal despite its small calibre. Almost every other NATO country use the round with their preferred rifle (Belgian FNC, British SA80, French FAMAS, Swiss Sig550, German G36, Italian ARX160, Austrian Steyr, Israeli Tavor). You don’t want to be at the receiving end of this small high Velocity round.
The original M16/AR15 rifle (Armalite) and CAR15 carbine (Baby Armalite) have already been replaced with newer and better models - M16A4 rifle, M4 carbine, and M27IAR (HK416).

Lighter guns also lessen fatigue.
When I watch COD WW2 I can't imagine lugging an M1 or M14 through the surf while getting shot at.
sabi nga ng khaki camouflage sundalo,
when in a roofed humvee, a trio armed with the longer M-16s, and a target presents itself, it's like a scene from the three stooges.
but with the shorter M-4, it's another story.
i'm grateful to these folks,
because i am enjoying the comforts of my home.
