August 3rd, 2011 07:46 PM #1I am planning to buy a lot and was wondering if there is a way to check the land elevation of a certain area to know how likely the area would flood during extreme rain? Since some place have lower land elevation(above sea level/ below sea level) which factors the likelihood for the area to experience flooding during high tide or rains since lower land elevation means water from areas with higher land elevation move or flow towards lower elevation areas.

Tanungin mo mga kapitbahay, mga tricycle driver or anyone living in the area.

August 3rd, 2011 10:41 PM #8yeah I already checked that...
what does area with no color mean like ayala makati? does it mean no flood?
cause if thats the case its kinda inaccurate cause we live in binondo and our area in the map is marked as flood prone but during ondoy we weren't affected by flood kahit 1 inch walang flood sa amin pero sa makati area which has no marked color for flood proneness was flooded include yung mga underpass sa ayala naging pool na

One more site: Philippine Flood Hazards Map
No color simply means no data.
BTW, the maps in nababaha.com is a flood forecasting map. It is not based on historical data alone. It uses historical data to forecast the higher probability of flooding and how deep based on input data like topographical maps of the area. So even if an area never had an inch of flooding, the area itself may have a flood potential warning.
Your best bet to know how an area is flood prone or not, ask the locals who have lived in the area for decades.
Choice I would have made as well.
