Physical and mental group activities requiring cooperation amongst members and role playing in a competitive team environment. The aim is to promote camaraderie and team spirit. We have already completed Level4 Teambuilding and they sure help the morale of the employees in the company....

Team Building = a term used in the office to go out of town and mingle with co-workers at company expense. Sa Tagalog, lakwatsya na bayad ng kumpanya! heheh!

Seriously, yun iyon diba? All the companies I worked for that had Team Building Session are just like that.

Teambuilding is a generic term and there are many types, depending on the objectives of the program.

The are indoor, classroom-type activities. Activities are usually mind games which requires team effort to win. Examples are Decode, Matrix, Quadrant, etc.

There are also outdoor, experiential type activities. These are physical activities involving team work such as the Blind Man's Trail, High-V, etc. Each activity is followed by a discussion to process the learnings of the activity.

These days, the most common type of outdoor teambuilding is the Upward Bound type which was popularized here by Bob Garon as Outward Bound, then later by other other training consultants such as Covenant Consultants, Lubid, Harness, etc. Interestingly, Upward Bound was not originally a teambuilidng program. The original Upward Bound was a training program used by the British merchant marine to prepare their sailors for naval support assignments during world war II.

Yung navy sailors kasi, standard na yung survival training nila once they join the navy. Yung merchant marines walang survival training. So they developed this survival course for them.

After the war, training consultants saw the potentials of this program for leadership training and they used it as such. There are 2 levels, the basic and the advanced. The advanced is so difficult that very few actually finished it. (Imagine going to a jungle for three days with only a pen knife and a match and you'll get an idea). To give the participants a better chance to survive, they tried doing it by teams. And so it became a teambuilding program.

Tell me where the venue is and who will be the consultants running the program. Chances are I'll be able to give you specific details about the program and the expectations. This will give you an edge over the other participants. But, of course, you will lose the thrill of finding it out for yourself.

Basically, the objective of a team building program, as its name implies, is to build a team.

In a nutshell, it improves communication, coordination, cooperation, cohesion, and a lot of other "cos" in a particular organizational unit so that the whole group works as one to attain the unit's objectives. It also defines the role of each and every member of the team and the results expected from them.

Comradeship or fellowship. From the French work "comrade" meaning roommate. Sa German naman "kamerad." Sa Spaninsh "compadre."
