yup, there was this study made before by pinoy doctors about "bangungot" which they called the "asian sleeping death syndrome". they said that it is actually a form of cramps of the chest muscles. cramps is caused daw by many factors but one of the main things is lack of potasium. potasium is needed by the nerve endings to transmit signals to the muscle cells and lack of it can lead to cramps. and with regards to the "bangungot" it usually happens when a person (usually asian males) was tired then eats a lot of rice (pagod so dami kain na rice, o kaya may fiesta dami eat nya tapos napagod during the fiesta). carbohydrates tends to drain away from the cell surface the potasium and then the nerves controlling the breathing reflex can't transmit signals, so ayun hindi makahinga while sleeping due to cramps sa chest muscles leading to death.Originally Posted by ILuvDetailing
