A bachelor's degree is nothing nowadays.

Our colleges and universities pump out thousands of college graduates every year. Its so generic now. its no big deal.

U need way more than a bachelor's degree nowadays.

To have an edge, u have to get more education.

In the global job market, u are competing against people who came from these schools:

there are a lot of alternatives other than UP, La Salle or Ateneo. sure your child will not meet the affluent or influential but at least educated siya. also not everyone's suited for college education. sometimes work attitude, hard work & honest living gets you further than an education from UP, La Salle or Ateneo.

everyone wants to attend harvard u but there's amacc & sti naman.

Regarding the quality of AMA & STI graduates, a lot of their computer science graduates especially fresh graduates have to be retrained at the company's expense as they don't have the abstract and logical skills needed to be a good programmer. It's not enough knowing the syntax and the structures of a programming language, they have to be able to model business transactions into mathematical models that can be coded in the programming language.

Lucio Tan started as a poor chinese immigrant (Madam Imelda called him a junk shop collector) like Henry Sy & John Gokongwei. The difference between us native Pinoys & the Tsinoys is hardwork & focus. Tsinoys know they dont have a "home court" advantage so they push their strong points & exert more effort. A lot of Pinoys have a "home court" advantage and take it for granted. Same thing happened among the Malaysians rin that's why they discriminate against Chinese-Malaysians and yet the Chinese-Malaysians are often more progressive. That's why decades after these poor chinese immigrants arrived they are now the ones lording over the Philippines.

    Dont be a slacker & you'll go places. ;)

There's actually a lot of work around (look sa classified ads) but sometimes the training/college background of applicants doesnt jive with what the job market requires from them at the moment.

Sometimes rin the job offered doesnt have the compensation package they want. Nothing wrong with that but the economy cant support better compensation.

When you cant find a job create a business. Kahit magbenta ka ng unan sa kapitbahay it's a good start towards a comfortable life.

One thing I noticed among a lot of applicants is that ang tatamad nila and have little or no initiative. With that kind of an attitude it's a wonder why they wonder why they dont progress in life.

A reason why La Salle, Ateneo & UP students gets jobs agad is because they're better educated & trained than other colleges/unis. Another reason is that these grads are affluent enough, connected & better trained making them very attractive to employers. Sometimes these grads go into their family business or create a startup.

A proper education & good training cost a lot of money thus the high tuition fees. Modern fascilities & equipment cost money to fund. The really good unis are what you call research-based. They're normally the ones that does those studies that are useful for all man kind like the BSD kernel, studies on obesity, cures to cancer, etc. These kinds of studies arent done here in the Philippines because it'll increase tuition fees, again.

No offense to AMACC & STI, etc grads, students & faculty but the owners of these fine institutions are out to make money. ;)

None taken . Good point, when I finished in 98 quality of education is below average, di ko lang alam ngayon. Most of my batchmates aren't really interested in computers, they're just there to get a Computer Science degree or a degree for that matter, now they work for or have their own business which isn't computer related.

Good point, studying in schools like La Salle, Ateneo and the like is a great advantage, but in the end it all depends on the person if he wants to push themselves or not to be successfull, a good education can only get you so far, don't get me wrong tho good education is a must...it is your foundation.

that teaches Americans to become self-sufficient coz wala ka na aasahan kungdi sarili not only financially but emotionally. that's why they make fun of 20 something "kids" who still live with their parents.

yan ang problema dito sa P'nas. ages 18 up are crucial years. dyan ka na natututo mag-isip talaga not only about academics and education stuff, but about life itself. and more often than not, pinoys here dont become an individual by his/her own merits but become copycats/opposites of his/her own parents.

kahit na financially stable ang family ng isang pinoy, he/she should become indenpendent in one of those years. these type of pinoys who become independent early tend to become successfully and highly motivated in the future. why? bec. at a younger age, they already realize that the world does not owe something to them unlike like spoiled brats, young activists, and gifted minds with misplaced idealism of today. The only people they can rely on are themselves na din. and therefore, it's a necessity to compromise one's belief and aspirations in order to be accepted into a group and to survive in our social world.

i've been looking back and have been also comparing and I do admit that I too had this problem. the first years of my adult life were a struggle to separate my way of thinking of that of my parents and senior relatives. even up to now, I still struggle from their influence.

Granted you got into La Salle or Ateneo (UP has a wonderful tuition fee and a more mass market student body but I still wouldnt let my future kids study there) by the hair of your chiniey chin chin and yet you dont have the "culture" of the school you'll still have a problem. If you have hangups over the mayamans you wont get too far in expanding your social circle. One thing I noticed in Philippine society is that it is very important to know the right people to get ahead in life if you dont want to put in an honest to goodness day's work.

Oh and one more thing. If you want to get ahead in life you really need to have good English speaking & writing skills. Tagalog wont cut it in the world of globalization.

by the year 2024, mayroon ka ng virtual teacher, parang hologram at sa bahay na lang bawat bata i-transmit ang virtual teacher sa harapan nya.

or posible din na mabago ng Japan ang takbo ng mundo by creating humanoid teachers hehehe. bili ka na lang robot teacher as we do today on computers. load-an mo ng memory each with different subjects, tapos magturo na sya at pasok ka na sa work.

    tipid!

kaya ako wala katiwa-tiwala sa age old primary/secondary/tertiary school system na yan eh. it needs to be phased out. ngaun mas mabilis pa matuto mga bata ng technology kaysa maging grade 5.
