    Direct sampling (can't be done now that its very dangerous to go to the island) and COSPEC/FLYSPEC by car and boat (can't be done with cloud cover like yesterday).

    Taal flatlined for the 4th straight day

    And, its the 2nd straight week of 0-single digit numbers.

    Still no data on SO2 emissions though.

    And, tummy is still rumbling.

    Maulap pa rin kahapon. Instrument won't be able to distinguish clouds from the steam.

    so they can do the measurements on nice, sunny days only?

    Still possible, but not as accurate. Calibration would be difficult. The instrument relies on the principle of absorption of UV light w/c is proportional to the amount of SO2. Thicker "steam", more absorption. As shown in the above diagram, the instrument will have a hard time to distinguish w/c are clouds and w/c is the steam coming from the volcano. It would give a reading but anomalously and unacceptably high.
