I'd be fine with an apartment so long as it has the amenities I like. An old car is fine so long as it runs okay and is problem-free.
Kids? Put em to work as soon as they're legally allowed to. Give em a taste of real life so they'd know money doesn't grow on trees.
We'd be able to live decently at ~$35k/year which include utilities, food, auto/rental, medical, and dental insurance. The rest of the salary will be the safety net/emergency fund.
