*Jun: I wouldn't worry about them. The abuses of power in connection with the "State of Emergency" have not been widespread... not just yet. You only have to worry if you're an enemy of Arroyo.

And even then, the police are handling detainees with kid gloves, and the fiscals are throwing some of the cases out because there's no evidence or sufficient cause to warrant the filing of a case... Thank God Randy David is all right, he's supposed to speak at our next graduation ceremony...

The military appears to be united for now, and behind the President. What's worrying is the circus of political bickering that's sure to follow this debacle. But any damage to the economy that will result has already been done. We're pretty lucky that this came at the end of the week, and it will give investors time to think about things over the weekend. I see the peso and stock market getting weaker, but not drastically so.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

I'm not worried about them getting arrested or anything. I just don't want to see them get caught in the middle by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

My mom was vehemently anti-Marcos, especially Imelda. So, it didn't help matters any when I told her my wife is from Leyte But, I haven't really kept in touch with her. So, I don't know what her political preferences are at present (except being anti-Imelda). I do know that both rich and poor, most of my relatives have to work. So, only a few of them probably attended a rally. For them, life goes on.

My dad has no say. He never took political sides because he didn't want to get kicked out of the Philippines. He just kept quiet and satisfied himself with whoever is in power.

You know everybody, sir jun is right. This warrantless arrest thing is extremely disturbing. For all you know, some government s**t has it in for you and decides to take the chance to arrest your sorry a$$ and no one can help you. Do any of us really believe that Bulilit is in FULL control? This is definitely not good.

I remember back in the Marcos days, we knew someone who was lucky enough to know a relative of Macoy to save his a$$ when he got arrested. It turned out that he innocently (and with blissful ignorance) bought a car that belonged to some governor's enemy and that car was on the PC's list. Apparently no one told the gov that the car was sold. Man was that guy scared s**tless.

I sure hope this extraordinary state of affairs stops soon, before it escalates even further.

Well, I didn't intend it that way. But, OK!

Hopefully, everyone is sitting back and thinking things over during the weekend, including GMA. She can still pull the country back from the abyss if it is indeed heading that way.

Her advisors did say it shouldn't last more than a few days. I guess we'll find out next week.

Maybe so. But her pattern during similar occasions in the past have been to lift the proclamation relatively quickly. I'm willing to see if she'll follow through similarly this time around. If not, then the gloves are off.

Cool down boys, state of emergency will only last a few days. The opposition will be re-examining their next move, I tell you this people will stop at nothing even blundering this nation, just to get Gloria out of the office.

The chaebols and the great industrial houses in Japan were well protected by their respective governments... why do you think the Yen has always been so low? Why do you think taxes for foreign goods there are so high? That's to encourage local growth, and ensure that their products are competitive overseas...

But here? The government is always at odds with Lucio Tan (the squabbling over PAL and NAIA), Danding, Henry Sy, et al. They don't offer enough incentives and protection to local moguls, and the local multi-millionaires, in turn, do everything they can do to work around the government. There's no close ties there that can be exploited to uplift local industry.

And all the while, the Government pays more attention to foreign investors, selling off rights and land. If local businesses got half the tax breaks foreign ones got, they'd all be filthy rich by now.

That our economy is doing semi-okay is amazing, actually.

And Gloria, likewise, will stop at nothing to stay in office. She's pulled off some very execrable stuff to get through the election rigging scandal, I can't help but think she might try some more hocus pocus to stay in power now.

She may be okay for the economy compared to the alternatives, but she's a horrible horrible politician. No tact, no guile, no subtlety, no shame... at least Ramos had the first three.

I think Filipino's stupid crab mentality partly plays role why people want to take their money out or just go overseas. So what I'm saying is, if I'm rich, sobrang tanga ko na if di me gagawa ng substantial investments overseas especially given how our govt and fellow Filipinos treat people na umaasenso. Kung baga, di pro-local investor ang climate naten n I hope ma-addess ito ng those in power.

Anyways, going back to our current crisis, ang masasabi ko lang is pare-parehas lang naman mga politicians at walang malinis ang kamay. However, I think most of us would support someone na ang priority ay magplano at magtrabaho para umasenso ang bansa at mamamayan. Whoever he or she is. So sana, tama na muna pulitika at coup d etats na yan...
