MANILA, May 2 -- Spidey snares the Philippine box-office in his web as Columbia Pictures' Spider-Man 3 arrived in theaters yesterday, pulling off the all-time biggest opening day and best single-day records in history with a legendary P 58.6-million nationwide gross. This was announced today by Victor R. Cabrera, General Manager of Columbia Pictures which distributed the film.
"This is beyond our wildest expectations," said Cabrera, referring to the record-shattering first-day haul. "We'd like to thank the movie going public and the theater exhibitors for readily accommodating hordes of Spider-Man fans by showing the film in almost all their screens."
The opening day figures of Spider-Man 3 are twice as bigger as Spider-Man 2's nationwide first-day gross in 2004 at P28.8-million, and are 278 percent higher than that of the first Spider-Man in 2002 at P16.4-M.
In Mega Manila, Spider-Man 3 posted a smash P45.6-million opening day gross in 302 screens (including IMAX Theater) and 61 locations. Tuesday's sales make it the biggest single-day gross ever in local history for any kind of film – Hollywood, Foreign or Filipino – and besting the previous record of Spider-Man 2 at P32.7-million which was established on a Sunday.
That figure also makes Spider-Man 3 the first movie ever to attain $1,000,000 in box office sales in one day, representing almost 100 percent of box-office market share in Mega Manila.
Outside Mega Manila, provincial moviegoers spent a whopping P12.9-million in 150 screens and 21 locations – breaking all existing records in the same demographic.
Cineplexes around the country likewise broke their own house records – in fact, the 21 top-grossing theaters all surpassed the P1-million milestone in just a single day. They are:
SM North EDSA (P2.94-M)
SM Megamall (P2.63-M)
SM Mall of Asia (P1.87-M)
Festival Mall (P1.67-M)
Glorietta 4 (P1.54-M)

Watched the movie with my wife and 2 of our boys a couple of nights ago at the ATC. We really liked the movie and there are a few comic scenes with Spidey and earlier, with Perry White.... hehehe
