I'm talking about the July 16, 1990 earthquake....
kinder 1 ako ng mga time na yan. as far as i remember, uwian namin yun ng biglang nag shake ang buong paligid namin ng ilang seconds. nakakatakot, parang end of the world...
I was in grade school that day and I was in front of Sto. Domingo Church. I didn't notice until the lady street vendor beside me started praying out loud.
I remember walking from that church up to Philcoa because the buses and PUJs are full due to the fact that everyone got to go home early.
Where were you and what did you do during that day?
I was in 2nd year HS and we were lowering the Philippine flag from the pole because it was about to rain when the pole suddenly started to sway. It was about a couple of seconds past that we realized the earth was shaking. Scared and disoriented, we ran to the open field.
It was a good thing we were under the DST. The elementary schools were dismissed early enough to avoid casualties. How? The top portion of the church's tower collapsed . . . directly on the street where elementary students were supposed to pass. God is really good.
The funny thing is . . . I learned to recite the rosary out of fear.
bro, pa-merge mo nalang eto sa thread ni shadow. meron na siya ginawa din about dito

I was also in 2nd year hs when this earthquake happened. Still fresh in my memory when my teacher said "don't panic" and we were crying and praying to God and asked for help. Then I walked from school (monumento) to my house (4th avenue), and I saw the damaged in Ever Grand Central. I really thank God for bringing me home safe and sound and also to my sister and brother.
HS ako at naghihintay sa bus stop nung biglang gumalaw yung ground. nasabi ko pa sa kasama ko "pare, may subway na ba pilipinas?" nung patapos na yung quake, tsaka palang namin narealize na lindol na pala. nagtawanan pa kami dahil kakaiba ang feeling na parang kinakalog. but it wasn't so funny when we got home and watched the news...
i was already working then (shows my age hehe). there was a strong rain before the quake. electric power was cut and the office was pitch dark. sad thing was when i was listening to the radio, one of the first casulaties i heard was my college classmate working at pagcor in that baguio hotel. she was supposed to be married soon to his longtime bf.![]()
ang tagal na pala non.. tumatanda na talaga tayo.. 4th yr HS kami non.. talagang the earth moved that day.. tapos syempre ni cancel ang classes so uwian na.. tanda ko nagbaksakan yung ibang puno sa may ramon magsaysay blvd.. at hindi umaandar ang trapik.. so from sta. mesa nilakad ko hanggang marikina.. hehehhee

one of the most emotionally draining scene was when tv stations started airing updates of a school girl whos body was pinned in the rubble of the central colleges in cabanatuan. i still remember up to this day how her father talked and gave her water while she is being rescued....but after a few hours her frail body gave way.....haaaaay
wala akong maalala. 5 years old palang ako nun. wala pa akong masyadong muwang sa buhay
I was a college student then. I believe I was at SM City North Edsa, kasi may natipuhan akong saleslady dun. She was so pretty to look at, and I made it a point to get a glimpse of her before going home from UP Manila...puwedeng artista eh.
When the quake was happening, people were awestruck, as if frozenin time. Walang nakapagsalita for the first few seconds, until somebody shouted "Lindol!", and suddenly there was a mad scramble for the exit, hehehe. Some remained calm though, parang walang nangyari (I was one of them. Iniisip ko pa rin kasi yung crush ko)![]()
I remember this happening exactly 3pm but then Pres. Corazon Aquino declared daylight saving time then so 4pm when it was recorded. I was a freshman at UST, first it rained so hard that afternoon, after it rained then it was my second subject (Science) when the quake occurred. First the Earth, shook like a bouncing ball, up and down then it shook from left to right, it lasted for 3 minutes, then it stopped but after a few seconds an aftershock again shook the building, everyone was crying while others were praying already. I'm glad the building did not collapsed, that could have been my last day on Earth.
I did not realized the magnitude of the quake after we were dissmissed from school, on my way home everyone was in disaray, people walking to and from like they can't stand in one place and buildings were heavily damaged. This would certainly be on my mind for the rest of my life.
