Ako, saka na lang ako punta dyan, pag naging stable na talaga yong mall. Saka mukhang wala naman extra special yata mai-o-offer yan MOA compared to other malls. IMAX lang yata, which i can live without - nandyan naman GB3 & Gateway. Kung yong baywalk din lang, usually naman nagpupunta kami ng wife ko sa promenade para mamasyal at paarawan yong baby namin.

Anyway, here's some interesting old news last Feb about MOA.

Cracks endanger Pasay’s Mall of Asia

THE Mall of Asia at the reclamation area in Pasay City is mysteriously vibrating and city engineers fear that it may collapse because of huge cracks underneath the structure.

The city hall’s engineering department inspected the mall over the weekend to determine the source of vibration and city engineer Edwin Jabarubyas warned that the cracks may affect the stability of the entire building.

The Mall of Asia is scheduled to be opened on March 3 but the city hall decided to postpone the opening until the vibrations are fixed and cracks are repaired by its contractors.

A multimillion-peso project, owned by SM Malls owner Henry Sy, it has several contractors like DSL Construction Corp., Malaysian Contractor and two other foreign builders.

The engineering team that inspected the area said the cracks underneath the mall were caused by the continuous digging which affected the reclaimed land.

The vibration of the mall is definitely due to the cracks underneath, the Pasay City engineering team said.

The cracks are located in front of the building along C-5 Road. One crack measures around 5 to 10 meters and the other one 3 meters.

The engineering team said that if the cracks deteriorate, it could cause the building to collapse.

Jabarubyas recommended the immediate repair of the reclamation area and suspended the March 3 inauguration of the mall until another inspection is conducted that will attest the safety of the mall to operate.

Mall of Asia is considered the largest mall in Asia and the city engineer said it is very important that it be safe before it is opened to the public.

Mall of Asia originally occupied more than 6,000 sqm of reclaimed land in Pasay City but another 3.5 hectares was added. Michael Caber

Engineer denies threat to Mall of Asia
THE Pasay City Engineering Department has categorically denied making a statement regarding defects in the Mall of Asia.

Engineer Edwin Javaluyas, Pasay City engineering officer, in his letter to SM Prime Holdings Inc., said he never stated that the city hall’s engineering department inspected the Mall of Asia last Feb. 23.

Javaluyas also said he did not find any defects in the mall.

The engineer was referring to the Feb. 27 issue of Standard Today, entitled “Cracks endanger Pasay’s Mall of Asia.”

Jeffrey Lim, corporate information officer of SM Prime Holdings, also denied that the mall was vibrating and could collapse due to huge cracks underneath the structure.

Lim assured that all structures inside Mall of Asia are founded on deep piles and “we have absolutely no record or indication of building movements.”

He further emphasized that a rescheduling of the mall’s opening was made to give the company an opportunity to allow more tenants to open shops. The grand opening is slated for May 2006 and took the place of an intended soft opening on March 3. Michael Caber
