    Hi tsikoteers,

I need an honest opinion from you guys... I have a chance to migrate to the U.S. but since the economic situation and unemployment rate are not good I'm having a second thought kung tutuloy ako or hindi. Hindi naman sa nagmamayabang ako but I am making a net income of 70K a month (deducted na po ang income tax).. If you are in my shoes are you going to migrate to the U.S.? My wife works in the bank and we have 3 kids (in grade schoool). Would you think it is advisable to just stay here and live a simple life. Any information that you can share will be appreciated. Hindi kami kasi makapag decide. Salamat po.

    Tough choice, bro.

We made the same one some 15 years ago, and then another, some 10 years ago. (In both cases, work then was waiting for us there)...

    Never regretted our decision.

    Pray bro. for your decision.

    Good luck!

What line of work are you in? My parents faced the same decision back in 1982 and they decided to immigrate to the US. My dad was already Vice President of an insurance company here in Manila and his first job in the US was a bookkeeper.

Looking back, it was the best decision they made for their kids, 3 of us (15,14,9!yrs old).

PM me if you want more advice.

wala namang makakapagsabi kung kelan babangon ang ekonomya ng US, o kung kelan babagsak ang ekonomya ng Pilipinas, in that matter.

siguro you can think about that again after 5 years.

This might be true but if you have no skills and no papers. But if you have skills, esp. In IT, then there are numerous opportunities in the US. Heck, forget about working...start a new business in the US if you can.

    i agree with this.

anyway btt, i lived in the states for almost 10 years. i can say is if you got used to the life here in the philippines then it will be pretty hard to adopt there. it's not as fun there in the states, most of my friends are americans since mga pinoy don sama ng ugali mga chismoso/chismosa, inggitero at backstabber kaya stayed away from them. life out there is very different, people are very busy and focused on their jobs, it can be fun but you have to have good friends, know where to hang out and be involve in outdoor activities. honestly if you're making good money here in the philippines i'd say stay here since finding a good job in the states right now is pretty hard. anyway since i have a family here in the philippines and a great paying job, ok na ako sa pa bakasyon bakasyon lang don but if i was single i'd rather live in the states or some where else. ewan ko kung single pa ako na isip ko mag pa lipat lipat ako ng country stay in one place for half a year then move again to a different one. mabilis kasi ako mag sawa.

just put in your mind that you may be the boss here.. but there you are just an ordinary worker... your skills will be your advantage... and when i say skill.. you should be "skilled" as in a lathe operator...

i have an officemate deciding if she will go to canada, she is used to typical office work (encode, receive process type), i said to her that in canada you will not do the same, you might end up as a crew or cashier or a helper and ask her "are you ready for that kind of job?" if not, then stay and focus on your career here

when you decide to go there, then go there and never look back

opportunities or not, generally, its not a good time.
i have relatives in the states who are in IT who were either laid off or had job cuts.
sa akin, contentment pa din yan.... if you are contented in your life here, then you stay.
if you are not contented, then roll the dice.

    yan ang thinking ko.
sinasabi ko kay misis letsget atta here or i'm atta here!
eto, nabubulok tuloy ako dito sa united states of kalookan.
    puweh!

saka galing na ko dun, 3 years ako natira dun. booooriiiing!

it's not the land of milk and honey no more...I would say America past its prime now...siguro nun '80s pa mas malaki chance na maging ok pag nag immigrate doon.

TS, have you been to the US and stayed for a couple of months at least?

for vacation, yes masaya, masarap...everything that you want meron doon, my description of US is it's like a big mall...lahat ng gusto mo or maisip mo na gusto mo meron ka mabibili...but to actually live there, makikita mo naman buhay ng mga tao doon eh...talagang trabaho bahay lang. that's why weekends are sacred to them...

life here is more relax...kaya maraming siraulo doon eh malungkot kasi...

nakita mo naman mga pinoy na retirees na doon, dito pa rin balik nila..iba talaga buhay dito...everything is easy..unless of course 100% na youll earn 10 folds doon but pag pareho lang or mataas lang ng konti...huwag na...

but at the end of the day, you know your situation more and of your family...

magipon na lang kayo then mag vacation na lang kayo once every year or every 2 years doon...

First, weekends lang may free time, pero maglilinis, maglalaba muna.

It's so convenient to travel in the US. If only US is 2-3hrs away from here, baka every six months andun ako, hehe. One state every visit

If you're job is secured, just stay here IMHO.
