MANILA – A female high school student in Pasig died in an alleged accident while taking a ''selfie'' photo.
The student, a 14-year-old third-year public high school student, allegedly fell on the third floor stairs inside the school premises while taking a photo of herself last Monday. She was accompanied by a friend when the alleged accident took place.
The relatives of the victim, however, complained that they received conflicting reports about the student's death.
The victim's uncle said he first received a call from the student's adviser, saying the victim was rushed to the hospital after feeling dizzy. However, when he arrived at the hospital, his niece was already dead.
Senior Superintendent Mario Rariza, chief of Pasig City Police, said the victim succumbed to her wounds an hour after being rushed to Rizal Medical Center.
Results of an autopsy on the victim's remains revealed that the latter sustained broken bones, and an injury at the back of her head. It was also discovered that the victim's rib pierced through her kidney.
The victim's family said the death of the victim may not have been due to an accident.
The victim's mother is asking witnesses to come forward and shed light on what happened.
The victim's father, meanwhile, asked the school administration to cooperate in the investigation. He also lamented the school's alleged poor response to the accident.
The school administration and the Department of Education have yet to issue a statement on the incident. – reports from Raya Capulong, ABS-CBN News; and Dennis Datu, dzMM
