JetBlue attendant slides down emergency chute after fight with passenger

By Holly Bailey holly Bailey – Mon Aug 9, 4:39 pm ET
Police arrested a JetBlue flight attendant today at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport after he got into a verbal altercation with a passenger and then fled the scene by sliding down the plane's emergency evacuation chute.
It all happened as the plane pulled into the gate at JFK after what had been a routine flight from Pittsburgh. But shortly after landing, a passenger stood up as the plane was taxiing to the gate and began removing his bags from the overhead bin. According to the Wall Street Journal's Sean Gardiner, the flight attendant, identified as Steven Slater, asked the passenger to return to his seat.
A "heated" exchange ensued, which culminated in Slater walking to the rear of the plane, where he grabbed the intercom. "To the passenger who called me a motherf***er, f*** you!" Slater yelled, passengers tell the New York Daily News. "I've been in the business 28 years. I've had it. That's it." He activated the emergency chute and slid away.

Slater then walked along the jetway into the terminal, where he took a shuttle to the employee parking lot. Observers watched as he ripped off his JetBlue tie and threw it to the ground. Slater got into his vehicle and drove to his home in Queens. According to the New York Times' Ray Rivera, he was arrested shortly afterward and faces charges of criminal mischief and trespassing.
A source tells WNBC that Slater was "having a bad day."

this.

Honestly, hirap rin ang trabaho ang mga tao who have to deal with other people that are mostly hard-headed. He had enough after 28 years. Kaya, swerte rin mga people who sits behind the desk in front of a computer.

Although mali nga ginawa nya, he snapped. Give the guy a break. Tutal he was lucky enough that nothing bad happened.

i also wonder on the need to stand up and block the isle e hindi rin naman makakalabas. . .how much time will you "save" by getting your baggage from the overhead compartment early?

This I understand. Matagal ang flight and you've been sitting down for hours already, so everyone would stand up na to stretch their legs. But of course you do this while the plane is on full stop na.

Since the plane is still moving and the passenger is standing up, a sudden stop could fell him and it could be serious or fatal (like his head hitting a hard and uneven spot...)

tumpak. gawin nilang criminal or punishable by law. o kaya magsabi sila ng strict guidelines like 'passengers caught violating will be barred from flying in any airline for 6 months'

better yet, show graphical images or video of accidents that might occur when standing while the plane is moving or turning the celfone on while inside the cabin. some people just don't understand or see the dangers of doing these.

Poor guy just snapped eh.

I noticed these happening:
- Opening Cell Phones and even talking on the phone while plane is still landing or just landed.
- Standing up before it stops or before the seatbelt sign is switched off.
- Opening the luggage compartment before the plane stops.

As for me, i usually wait for everyone to disembark before i stand up. Its just a five minute difference and when i have check-in luggage, maghihintay pa rin naman.

/\ it takes less effort to do nothing than sit and wait for a while. . .some people just can't control the urge to do something they thought of doing even if it's discouraged. . .they just don't see the danger of not cooperating until an accident happens which could be caused by their inappropriate little actions. . .and when something bad happens, they blame it on the airline company and airline staff

I've read somewhere that the flight attendant got hit in the head by a bag or the compartment door.

naalala ko tuloy yung old saying, "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." Even if you're a paying customer, you shouldn't abuse it.
