Bayan Ko
Original Tagalog lyrics by Jose Corazon de Jesus
Melody by Constancio de Guzman.

Ang bayan kong Pilipinas
Lupain ng ginto't bulaklak
Pag-ibig ang sa kanyang palad
Nag-alay ng ganda't dilag.
At sa kanyang yumi at ganda
Dayuhan ay nahalina
Bayan ko, binihag ka
Nasadlak sa dusa.

Ibon mang may layang lumipad
Kulungin mo at umiiyak
Bayan pa kayang sakdal dilag
Ang di magnasang makaalpas!
Pilipinas kong minumutya
Pugad ng luha ko't dalita
Aking adhika,
Makita kang sakdal laya!

I'm proud of the fact that filipinos, as individuals, can be great engineers, doctors, nurses, architects, programmers, writers, etc.

I'm ashamed of the fact that Filipinos, as a society, stink to high heavens.

Which reminds me, I know of this batchmate once, who made mention of himself being a 'proud pinoy' so dapat everyone should buy Filipino, etc. etc. A friend of mine was sort of insulted because siya pa ang ginawang example. So he pointed out to this person na ".. eh ano suot mo? Giordano na shirt, Levi's na pants, Nike na sapatos... ang galing mo no?..." Guess where this person is now? Nasa US of A. Nag emigrate na daw. Shucks.

Peeps, there is no such thing as a stupid question / answer in this thread. Everyone has his / her own opinion diba? Let's not resort to this okay?

IMHO, its them government officials who call the OFW 'bagong bayani'.

If you ask me, I'd rather have our professionals work locally and help the country grow. As woulfe27 said (and I agree), magagaling talaga ang mga pinoy, but the reality is, nasasayang ang skills nila dito because of corrupt government officials.

We need the remittances of OFWs becuase in the first place, corrupt govt. officials are the ones feasting on our money. Nakaw more, so need more remittances, etc. grr!

I agree with you on both your statements.

As for the second, it's a shame, its getting worse.
