hmmmm... that's hi-way robbery normally cost around 4k (for 9mm) to around 6-8k for (.45).

permit to transport is issued to allow you to transport your firearm outside of your residence to the firing range or to bring it to a gunsmith. baka po yung "ptcfor" na inoffer sa inyo sir bilog is yung permit to transport.

mukha pong mahal masyado yung 10-11K for a permit to transport. mas madali pong maka-avail ng permit to transport if you're a member of a gun club - encouraged po kasi ang membership sa ganito kasi it's a good way to monitor gun-owners and it provides people the much needed training, both on skills and discipline, needed in owning a gun.

sir BD, that's exactly why wala na pong ptc, kasi naging marami na ang incidence ng paggamit ng firearms during fits of rage - sabi nga nila, carrying a gun does not imply that you have a motive to shoot another person, but it presents an opportunity for abuse.

Issuance of Permit-To-Carry (PTC) is suspended indefinitely to civilians but there's always an exepmtion to the rule... if u can show valid proof that your life is threatened, then u can apply for a PTC.. legally, it will cost you 7-8k for 1 year... kung ipapaayos mo lang, aabutin mga 10k up...

sometimes, you really need to carry a gun for protection.. lalo na kung kailangan sa trabaho like if u always carry large sum of cash...

if pambahay lng i recommend the Beretta 92FS, reliable masyado ito at pwede pa high cap magazine. more than 3 years na sa 92D ko, la pa nasisira kahit ilang beses na mag-shooting.

if idadala mo, ok ang Sig Sauer P228, reasonable size n stopping power.

bro, hindi ako expert sa baril, pero expert ako sa COUNTERSTRIKE. hehehehe.

on your question, i think ang mai-aadvise ko lang is that you get a 12 gauge shotgun. allowed ata civvies to get this for protection. tsaka you really don't require gun handling skills to use one, in case of emergencies.

ooops... late, hindi ko nabasa yung post mo. kailangan mo pala handgun.... a 9 mm works best for self defense. mas kailangan mo ng quantity over stopping power.

Kung talagang life is in danger like you have a previous experience in kidnapping, you are profile of a potential kidnap victim, you received death threats, etc., I don't see anything wrong in protecting yourself. But if you wanted a PTC for some other reason, I don't advise. Just keep your cool and be low profile, you'll be safe in our streets.

on the contrary you want stopping power over quantity. in a gun fight, you want to resolve the conflict fast! better to resolve a conflict with one bullet (or two) rather than having a prolonged gun fight. besides you don't want 'spray and pray' tactic, better shoot fast, accurately and effectively... thus stopping power is a must! just my 2cents worth... and what one would be thought if you take gun/combat training. (no... i'm not military)

however, you can have both of best world! there's hi capacity .45 to be had na, usually para ordnance (P14, P13, P12) from 12 to 15 shooter .45 caliber handgun. although their a bit heavier, you get use to the weight difference easily.

i was about to post din na ang bro ko i think meron permit to transport at permit to carry.. meron he prefers na hindi nalang makita ng mga checkpoint. by the way nasa mindanao sila kaya madalas din ang checkpoint. i dunno how much it cost him pero ang pagkakaalam ko last year lang niya nakuha yung permit to carry nya (not sure)... so baka pwede ka.. handguns lang naman.

9mm nga din pala siguro mas maganda, malambot lang kalabitin at hindi kasing lakas ng tama ng .45, at least malaki chance crippled lang ang abot ng tatamaan as compared to .45 malaki chance patay tatamaan mo, makakasuhan ka pa ng murder or homicide

but for a common civilian with who is not really proficient with a handgun, quantity would be a priority. bottomline dpende na yan sa marksmanship n proficiency ng bibili. and marami pa factors like size, weight, concealability blah blah blah

well, if you own a handgun... it is highly recommended for you to join a gunclub so you can be proficient with your *tool*. although its not illegal for someone not to undergo proper training in using his gun, i'd hate for that guy to get into trouble with someone proficient in shooting.

    yup. my point....
actually, i've been on practical shooting years back and i can say that ordinary civvies really cannot just handle even .22 cal pistols, much more kung .45 pa hawak mo.

besides, the thought of just maiming a person, even while in self-defense mode, can really test the hell of the character of the person. may psychological thing yang paghawak ng boga eh. may takot, ika nga, na maski your life is under threat, magdadalawang isip ka pa ring iputok. so your accuracy is under question. sa akin, like i've mentioned earlier and as what BlueBimmer posted, i would still go for quality over quantity for un or underskilled people. maski nga mga pulis natin, hindi ganung ka-asintado eh. much more ordinary people.

things will be different kung may gun training ka. i may have to choose stopping power.

btw... when i was still on shooting (mga 10 years ago na yun), i was using a Glock 9mm.

and btw, for home self defense, instead of a pistol, i have a 12 g-shotgun at home.

well siguro decide ka muna what caliber do you like. i used to be a gun fanatic(have lots of old 'Combat Handguns' magazines; fav columnist M.Ayoob?). learn a lot from him especially in real world scenario. there is also two kinds of 9mm(long & short). Beretta 92 series are the long caliber ones(9mm luger yata tawag ng americans) like this while the short ones(.380 yata tawag ng americans) like sigsauer 230 which are good for back ups are like this
