yup, the economy is really stabilizing under GMA, bukod sa question ng pandaraya nya
she has done more good than bad to our country.
GMA inherited a country that is already at rock bottom thanks to Marcos, thank you to Cory, thank you to FVR and most special thanks to Erap. lahat ng nirereklamo ngayon kasalanan naman ng mga nagpatakbo prior to GMA
correction po kay FVR, Tiger Cub na tawag sa 'tin nun. and it can be remembered na one of the peaceful period in our nation's history. zero coup d' etat and gulo on a national scale.Originally Posted by davy88

main reason why we're back to square one?
Ramos planned to cha-cha the constitution, perhaps to extend his term.
lahat nagalit, rally dito rally duon at ang major personalities sa rally - Erap, Marcos siblings, Cory, and syempre mawawala ba sina Satur and company.
so hayun nagbigay na lang si Ramos since it's the will of the people. then Erap came to power hehehe.
btw, did you know that it was also Erap's group who was also responsible for the removal of the US Bases here. Erap and some senators of today identified with the opposition voted out the US Bases Agreement, buti na lang kamo hindi nadamay ang Mutual Defense Treaty. mabait pa din US sa tin kahit pinalayas natin sila.
dagdag ko lang kumbakit successful and supported si Erap to oust the Americans ... bec of his popular movie, "Maynila, Sa Kuko ng Agila". in the movie, he punched some G.I's to protect our national treasure: "pinays"
hehehe. male actor - erap, female actor -nikki coseteng both heroes of the movie, and both senators at the time of voting out the US Bases.
siguro think na lang tayo, ano nga kaya kung na-extend term ni Tabako (who was being accused as a dictator na that early bec. of cha cha) and the US Bases still here. Are we better off like Singapore now, or Afghanistan?

Precisely my point. how sure is he that he speaks for that 8 or so %, as he implies? Plus, why discount the 90+% balance? i may not like them, i may not agree with them, but that portion of the population is a reality that cannot be ignored.
Simple, almost all of the posters here agree with the sentiments of the writer, I guess that is enough to prove a point.Originally Posted by mbt

not at all a representative sample, that is like saying that based on tsikot posters, hardly anyone in the philippines uses a motorcycle heheheheOriginally Posted by CoDer

personally, i don't care about the rallies... they can rally all they want, basta pwede ba, huwag lang harangan yung daan. they have the right. kung hindi pinansin ni GMA yung mga nagrarally peacefully nung Feb. 25, wala naman magagawa yung mga rally na yan e.
ang ayaw ko lang talaga yung mga sundalo diyan na hala sige na akala nila savior of the philippines sila.
Aha! bat biglang napunta sa motorcycle ang usapan?Originally Posted by mbt

sa dinami dami na ngang rally na inumpisahan ng mga taga oposisyon ni isa wala pa ata akong nakita na nagtagal. hindi dahil sa agad itong pinapabuwag ng administrasyon, but because they really don't get the support of the silent majority. i am also not pro GMA pero sino naman kaya ang ipapalit sa kanya... let her finish her job and wait till the next election.
the unfortunate reality is that there's really no other effective avenue for public expression but to protest in the streets
I think most of the bayan muna reps already have a seat in Congress d'ba? like Satur Ocampo and others. if they cant be heard there, then they have no teeth talaga,Originally Posted by mbt

P51.38 to the dollar. I realize that's the lowest the exchange rate has been. But, it still is an eye opener to me. Last time I remembered, it was anywhere from P18-P23 (over several years) per dollar under Marcos. When did this freefall happen?
Of course, my Dad gets a monthly paycheck from Uncle Sam in $. I guess his buying power will be less.
Edit: Make that 2 paychecks. He also gets Social Security since he's past 62.
Also, wouldn't a stronger Peso have a negative affect on Philippine exports?

yupyup, my sentiments are also the same with the writer.
nung si GMA tumakbo VP she won by a landslide so madami talaga supporters, when she became president sinira sya ng sinira ng mga inggit kaya bumagsak popularity nya.
kahit sino umupo after Erap would be in the same predicament as GMA now, baka nga napatalsik na by now. magalaing din si GMA kahit papano
EDSA 1 succeeded in part because, given a choice between Marcos and Aquino, Filipinos decided to take their chances with the unknown than add to 20 years of painful familiarity.
EDSA 2? Estrada didn't really run against anybody (in spite of the snap elections he proposed); he was simply taken over by his second-in-command GMA. Again, her ascent to power was largely welcomed, based on the assumption that her education and qualifications made her a better choice than her predecessor.
Future EDSA uprisings prior to 2010 have little or no chance of succeeding. For GMA to leave the presidency now would mean: 1. Handing the position over to Noli De Castro (who isn't really ready, and will never be); 2. Letting a military-dominated revolutionary government/junta take over (men in uniform running the country again?); 3. Going back to a drunken, womanizing macho bully (or at least a regime with his support), or 4. A leadership of rogue military elements and insurgents, whose shaky alliance triggers a bloody power struggle and eventually plunge us all into complete anarchy.
Human nature will tell us to bear with a leaky ship until it reaches shore, rather than bail out early and satisfy the sharks. Given the above, it will come as no surprise if Filipinos choose to bury their disgust toward GMA and ride things out with her in the meantime.

that is completely understandable and i do not disagree... but i just wonder if that "burying of disgust" about GMA's more disgusting acts will not come back to haunt us in the future.
thinking aloud here, i don't really have any answers

OT Na.
Ayoko po yung give up my freedoms.
May magandang symbol pa - Jose Rizal monument. Tapos ang laki ng frontage, kitang-kita sila. O diba? Matatakot pa sa kanila mga drug dealers & snatchers sa dami nila. Very good!![]()
