Classes at the University of Sto. Tomas (UST), the oldest university in the Philippines and in Asia, will be suspended until Wednesday, September 30.

This was announced by professor Giovanna Fontanilla, director of UST's Office of Student and Public Affairs Monday afternoon to ensure that the school will be ready for use when classes resume on October 1, Thursday.

However, work for UST staff and administration executives will resume Tuesday, September 29.

While classes are suspended, professors are encouraged to provide academic work to their students on-line.

UST has decided to suspended classes after flood waters caused by tropical storm "Ondoy" submerged various areas in Manila, including España Street where the university is located. -
