dude, it is a new fad. what you're talking about is reporters trying to fit in since gamit talaga sa mindanao yan. it is a fad since nagiging pamporma and fashion statement sya dito sa manila for people trying to look cool.It's not exactly a new fad. I'm used to seeing those scarves being sported by journalists who have been to Mindanao assignments, similar to what morrisey_05 pointed out. They've been doing that for years already, ngayon lang siguro nauso for street use.
personally, i think it looks stupid. buti sana kung nauso sya during the colder months kaso ang init ng panahon ngayon eh.
