Well, here in the Philippines, people tend to treat rich people with more attention versus poor people. Even in the malls you will see it happening. Its still a case of the haves and the havenots. your opinions please . . .

Ang masakit kapwa mo pa kalahi minsan ang unang magpapa andar sa yo hehehe… isa na rito ang kwento ng mga kapatid ko nung unang salta nila sa amerika wayback in early 80’s. minsang dinalaw nila ang mga kamag-anakan naming sa san francisco, my ate and kuya came from seattle, they’re riding my kuya’s Toyota hi-lux, ang tanung ng mga kamag-anakan naming ay ganito “ paano kayo napunta rito as amerika?” sabi nila eh ako ho (my ate) ay umatend ng dental convention and at the same time nagpakasal na kami ni jimmy (my brother in law who is a us immigrant and at the same time president of Philippine Dental Association) my kuya naman answered “ eh nakapasa ho ako sa navy sa atin kaya ako nakarating rin dito” hindi pa dun natapos, ang masakit eh yung follow up question coming from my bayaw (sa pinsan) in california. “Nakakarating kayo ng san Francisco ng naka tsinelas lang?” though alam ng mga kapatid ko na pabiro pero syempre masakit….
After ilang months that same person (my bayaw sa pinsan) bought also a Toyota truck (Tundra) and much bigger than my kuya’s 4X4 hi-lux SR-5 in other words hindi nagpatalo hehehe….
After more than 5 years my kuya came back to San Francisco to visit our relatives anew but this time he was no longer in slippers and Toyota hi lux SR-5 but riding in a GMC Yukon Denali na me hatak na RV. All my bayaw sa pinsan said was “ang mahal niyan ah” sagot naman ng kuya ko “Nakuha lang sa tyaga kasi nag-aral ako after ng stay ko sa navy kaya heto manufacturing engineer na ko sa shell…. Yung bayaw ko after ma lay off sa mga electronics company, part time na naglilinis ng damo sa highway… hirap na rin daw work di tulad ng dati.
just sharing…..

a. i really don't know if you will call this racism, but around eight years ago, when i travelled to the States, my entry point was in St. Paul Minneapolis. Upon entering immigration, and even though i have a valid US Visa, i was held up by a burly immigration agent, when he saw my Philippine passport. I was detained for two hours inside a holding cell with some Pakistanis, Africans and people from the middle east. Just held me up without questioning.. Parang napag-tripan lang ako. Released me after two hours. I was wearing pa naman a suit that time..... hehehehehe.
b. here in the Philippines. pero this is more like a discrimination, not racism. at the alabang town center designer's depot where all the designer stuffs are located. i was there because i just have to run some errands, so i was wearing sandals, a basketball short and some non-designer shirt na round neck lang. i was carrying around a pina barong that time that i've picked up from dry-cleaning. my wife asked me to get her a cleaning solution from Coach (a designer item) from the Coach shop. aba....ayaw akong bentahan nung saleslady dahil mukha ata akong can't afford and yagit. but when i went back there two days after wearing a linen barong, binentahan ako.
c. when i was in shanghai, working there as an expat. yung subordinate kong chinese, ayaw maki-cooperate sa akin. after going there, i went to our mother office headquarters in Tokyo and based dun sa meeting namin with my japanese counterparts, ang sabi nya dun sa japanese project manager namin from the mother office is ayaw daw nyang maki-cooperate dahil pilipino ako, and technically, chinese guys daw are better than filipino guys in terms of Information Technology. virtually kicked that guy out of my team when i went back to shanghai after a month.

One time, after the 911 incident (9/15 to be exact), I went to Chicago. Matanong lang sila sa immigration during that time, pero okay naman. The immigration officer is all smiles sabay sabing "Welcome to the United States!"

Rascism and discrimination are very much alive, its a part of our culture and others. Not all people are into this but this are very real, you can sense this in every part of the world w/o trowing a words.
Pilipino itself are discriminating thier own kind. Mall kapag pumasok ka sa mahal na bintahan at wala ka sa porma, they been watching you like a criminal. Job application sometimes stated, MUST HAVE PLEASING PERSONALITY. Too bad for the UGLY.
Bank Of America Makati branch (Paseo de Roxas), my own experinced.
I was pulled out from the line by security guard stated that I was on the wrong side because this line is for foreigners only. So I said I am an American visitors pero hindi maniwala just because the color of my skin. To make this story short, he backed down noong ipinakita ko ang passport sa kanya. Too bad wala siyang TIP noong lumabas ako sa bangko.

i work in a call center, madalas pag nalaman ng mga kano na pinoy kausap nila magde-demand ang mga mokong ng american agent - "i want to speak to an american / i want someone who speaks english" - as if namang binibisaya sila ng mga agents dito sa pinas.. in fairness to other americans (but only few), na-a-amaze pa sila pag nalamang sa pinas sila tumatawag.
pero madalas din napagkakamalang tayong indians, they'll say - "are u an indian?"

November 22nd, 2007 09:11 AM #39yah tama we may not realize this but we are not only racist but also discriminatory to other people---even to our own kababayans.
ang masama pa nun pikon pa! we judge on the way other people dress, social class, amoy, kulay ng balat, subgroup(kng tsinoy ba o tisay) etc.. talaga nga lalong garantisadong wala tayong mararating kng ganyan.

I've ranted enough about Pinoys looking down on other Pinoys in other posts. So, I'm not going to add anymore. I think we've brought ourselves down enough already.
But, it's a good thing this matter is being discussed. The first step to fixing a problem is acknowledging there is one in the first place.
As for being discriminated by other races........ When I travel, I tend to travel either alone or with my family. When I travel alone, I haven't had anyone move away just because I sat near or next to them.
Example is my ongoing trip....... At Amsterdam, I sat quietly waiting for my flight and a few Caucasian women sat next to me and the seats nearby. I just gave a cursory "Hi" and went back to watching movies on the PSP. I guess they either didn't see me as much of a threat or found me unsavory-looking.
Then, the gate for my flight changed and I had to move to another gate. This time I sat next to a Brit on my right. I knew because he asked me to watch his things while he bought a newspaper. On my left, was a tall Arab in full white gown(?) and headwear chatting away in his cellphone. Nothing untoward happened. We're all roadwarriors waiting for a flight.
I then had to hit the can and drop a load. When I got back, my old seat was taken. Looking around, the only seats open were at another gate where a large group of Africans were sitting. I didn't lose a beat. I went right in and sat among them. There I was, the only non-African in the group.....watching a video on my PSP.Last edited by Jun aka Pekto; November 23rd, 2007 at 12:21 AM.
A relative of mine in Canada had his Scion FR-S PPF'd and then had it ceramic coated. He says it's...
