"be sure you have a spare key in your wallet!"

Did it once nung college pa ako.

Yup... It happened but this was many, many years ago. Once, the car auto locked in Tagaytay with the key inside and engine running. Our family driver had to drive the spare key up to us. In another case, i locked the key inside the car and it was blocking the entrance/exit of the service center. We put the car on a jack and had to roll it off. That's why now i always keep a lightweight spare key in my wallet and i always lock the car using the key (not hitting the door locks on the way out).

Re. leaving keys inside, i found something strange with Mazdas from the 90s. Back then we had a 1997 323 Familia and in two occasions, i was able to open the doors of other locked Mazdas (owner locked the key inside) using my own key.

Hehehe... masubukan nga pag may nakita akong magandang 90's na Miata. :D Ewan ko nga. It was just the regular car key of our 323... I still have one spare left at home i think.

BTW, it only opened the doors but never worked on the ignition.

never pa. kasi gamit ko lagi remote key pang lock sa sasakyan. so pag naiwan ko man sa loob, bubuksan ko ulit at kunin ung remote car key at ito ay i-lock.

    Twice.

    - Rental Corolla sa Rockwell. Found out around midnight. Galing ni manong enforcer magbukas without breaking anything
    - Old Lancer namin sa Wilson GH. Left wife and kid in the car to buy from Mercury. Buti na lang the engine was off and lapit lang bahay so we took a taxi home and I got the spare key.

I just make it a point to triple-check that the key is in my pocket before closing the trunk. I also open the driver's window if for some reason (like while nagsusundo sa airport) I have to go down while the engine is running.

Bro,- that is what I do all the time (spare key in my wallet or in my pocket & lock the door/s using the key) in our ride without remote central lock/alarm.... Sharing of best practices ha?...

Medyo naibaba ko siya from the outside...

Malas lang if you also left your wallet inside the car. Nightmare yan if you lock the key and you're out-of-town.

You know the Vanette all to well bro,- yes, one of my lock clips is broken for 7 years already. Naka-nylon tie siya ngayon.... ... Ayos.

Same with vine, driver had to drive spare key to me, twice na nangyari and both times engine were left running...

That was back in early college pa...where wala pa mga integrated alarm sa key, so aftermarket alarms naka install and auto lock pag Sara ng pinto...

Both times I started the engine then went down and look at the engine bay...

I have a couple of friends who have this (similar) style too...

    So, they do not have to worry about carrying a spare key or being locked out.... :grin;

:hysterical:

This happened to our company car. We were in Batangas and over 2 hrs running yung engine. I remember my Dad being impressed that the car did not overheat. They thought of destroying the glass but did not go through with it. The keys were sent from Manila pa.

In Tagaytay naman my friend absentmindedly closed the trunk and left the key inside. He knew what he did the moment he closed the trunk This happened at the Rotonda kasi we were at 711 looking for a film for my camera (it was that long ago ) My friend thought of having the spare key sent to Tagaytay from QC but there was a nice manong that was able to open the door without destroying anything. I think it was sungkit method.

It happened to me once naman but it was in the garage. I could not remember where I placed my spare keys so my brother just used the normal sungkit method, Peeled off the rubber sa may window then used alambre, bent it into a "J". Tapos naangat na yun lock. I think that only works for old cars.

Gash, i hate that feeling. You know it at the same exact (slow motion) moment as the door/trunk is closing.

    Happened to me twice already.

Pero unahin ko muna yung sa brother ko kasi I was also part of the experience. Nagpunta sila Tagaytay for a retreat if I remember right. Then at around 7pm tumawag sa akin pinapakuha yung spare key niya sa bahay. Ayun, ibinyahe ko pa yung susi from Marikina to Tagaytay. Mga approximately 2 hrs din running yung engine nya just waiting for the spare key.

First time naman nangyari sa akin nasa office parking ako. I opened the trunk to get something then nilapag ko yung susi sa compartment. Just after closing the trunk I realized naiwan ko susi ko sa loob. I even have my house keys together sa car key, and yung spare key ko eh nasa bahay naman. So I had to request my father from the province to have his spare house key sent over para lang mabuksan ko ang house door. It was a relief talaga when I was able to finally open the car the next day.

Second time naman, I was picking up my dad sa North Harbor. As I was waiting for the ship to arrive, I got out to get something in the trunk. Just as I close the trunk, that familiar sound of the remote door locks engaging went off. I have changed to Autopage kasi and it auto locks 30 secs after getting out of the car. I just stood there quite dumbfounded for a few minutes. Siya naman ngayon have to travel from Marikina to bring my spare key to Manila.
