‘Road rager’ dared to face raps
By: Jerico Javier
RELATIVES of two victims who were allegedly shot to death by a Pasig City legal officer in a fit of rage over a traffic spat yesterday challenged him to come out in the open and face the charges against him.
Atty. Manny Angeles, grandfather of Katherine Kaye Palmero, said the family was worried that suspect, Atty. Manuel Hernandez, could slip out of the country to elude prosecution.
"Siyempre worried ang buong pamilya na baka umalis siya ng bansa at doon magtago," the lawyer, the family’s spokesperson, said in a telephone interview.
"Kung magtatago siya that is an admission of guilt…
Hernandez has snubbed media interviews since he was involved in the killing of Palmero and her companion, Edgardo Canizares, Total Information Management vice president. Hernandez was also included in the Bureau of Immigration and Deportation watchlist.
Hernandez has failed to report to work after posting a bail bond of P80,000 bail for his provisional liberty, after the case filed against him was downgraded to double homicide.
In another interview, Atty. Teodoro Jumamil, Palmero lawyer, said they had already filed a motion for a hold departure order against Hernandez to prevent him from leaving the country.
The motion was filed last week before the Judge Danilo Cruz of Pasig Regional Trial court Branch 152.
"Based on our last check before the Bureau of Immigration wala pa namang lumalabas ng bansa na Atty. Manuel Hernandez," Jumamil said. "But we have to make sure na hindi siya makakalabas ng bansa kaya nag-file kami ng HDO against him."
Relatives of both victims have appealed to the Department of Justice to upgrade the case from homicide to murder.

usually the egoistics ones are yun masyado lumalagay sa tama and they're trying to enforce it to others even if they're not an enforcer hehehe
look at 90% of killers in Bilibid, most of them got jailed bec. they did 1 mistake in their life. hindi nila na-control emotions nila bec. they always followed rules, followed the right way etc. etc... karamihan daw sa mga to eh mga peaceful loving creatures but also wished that everyone is like them ... or else ...

October 18th, 2007 03:23 AM #5Kung ako yung kamag-anak ng biktima, hindi ko na pa-upgrade to murder yung kaso. 2 Counts of homicide lang at Comelec gun ban violation halos hamabuhay na sa preso yan, mas madali pa i-convict.Sana lang they're 'strong' enough and determined enough to push through til the end. At kung tumakbo man yung killer ay habulin nila hanggang sa dulo ng mundo or however long it takes to put the guy behind our bars. And to make sure he gets absolutely no special treatment.

October 18th, 2007 04:02 AM #7I believe the right saying is DO unto others ... not DON'T DO. Pro-active rather than passive.

Bro, the problem is, homicide is a bailable offense, whereas murder, especially pag 2 counts, is not. Actually, out on bail ngayon yung suspect, at may probability na tumakas, kasi may connections daw.
