    Phase-out.

A few FB friends have parents who are part of the transport sector. They aren't against updating per se - everyone agrees that jeeps are ancient tech. What they don't agree with is that they're expected to buy whatever new alternative will be shoved down their throats as if it was just like buying a new pair of jeans.

Many jeepney drivers live on a day-to-day basis. While you can argue that jeepney operators who own multiple jeeps are moneyed, there are also jeepney drivers who own their unit and don't have the capacity to plop down a million pesos (or thereabouts) for a new, modern jeep.

It's a valid point to ask for a vehicle modernization scheme from the government - support in terms of timeline of the phase-out, flexible payment terms, trade-in of old jeepneys, etc. It will be easier for all if the government facilitates a smooth transition by acknowledging that the drivers need their help.

While a jeepney is undoubtedly less environment-friendly than any car in the market today, it also serves as transpo for roughly 20 people. Hence, if comparing the per capita pollution contribution of a jeepney vs us private car users, guess who makes the environment worse-off?

My point is, people want jeepneys to change under the guise of environmental conservation. Yet, these very same people are unwilling to give up their comfy private cars.

Yes, there aren't any convenient alternatives that's why people still use their cars. There are also no other convenient alternatives for the commuting public and the jeepney drivers, which is why the jeepney remaina.

how i go to the office, does not alter the fact that current jeepneys with ill-maintained, ancient engines will spew out more pollutant than jeepneys with newer, more well-maintained engines.
fair is fair. if the government forces me to maintain my car so's it will not spew out pollutant, they should do the same to the jeepney.

Again, what is the alternative? You are a doctor with the financial capacity to change cars if need be in the name of the environment.

Jeepney drivers aren't as privileged as you, which is why it's very, very important for them to know how they will be able to transition to new-age transportation without having to sell their children and their kidneys.

Let's see: limited transportation options, lots of commuters stuck in the streets, light traffic. This is an Uber driver's wet dream.

I also enjoyed driving today. Relatively light traffic with a lot less stop and go because of jeeps. I will make it a point to finish as many errands as possible at every strike in the future.

some bus makers now offer clean diesels. Instead of jeeps sana minibuses na euro4 sana. government should provide some sort payment scheme for these operators

problem is kahit hybrids walang incentive eh. how many prius were sold last year? 2?

I wonder when we'll have a good train system. I hope I live to see it.

For crowded places like India.. they thrive with mini buses, train systems there would slow the pace too much.
