Yes. I heard of it about 3 years na yata. We first used it in our US Head Office, but here in HK, the upper management decided to use Axapta instead, but the project team of Axapta failed after more than a year and after our company spends millions (HKD) setting up this ERP from MicrosoftOriginally Posted by wrcastro_ph
Finally, our management decided to let off Axapta and follow the US instead as they managed to implement it successfully, so right now, we are again starting to roll off Oracle and my boss just asked me if I'm interested to take the DBA post, which I readily agreed
(crossed fingers na matuloy hehe).
what ICB meant was Oracle 11i Apps and Financials. sa RDBMS side Oracle 10g ang latest (10.0.X.X).Originally Posted by wrcastro_ph

ICB,
Goodluck bro, kaya mo yan. Before ako maging Oracle DBA ay naging Informix DBA muna ako for several years then migrated to Oracle. And now I'm currently exploring into UDB. Ang gulo ng buhay ko ano? But mainly, I'm working as Unix (all flavors incl. Linux) and Oracle 7/8/9/10 consultant in a software development company.
Guys,
Kung UNIX based medyo mataas ang bigayan sa oracle DBA kasi dika dapat limited sa oracle DBA you should know UNIX scripting/administration to manage ang databases. Hindi importante ang certification sa oracle plus lang yon ang importante how good you are pag handle ng problema pag nag crash na ang databases how good you are in Recovery planning.
i'm not a certified DBA, pero i do have a working knowledge of oracle DBA tasks. Self study lang usually; nothing's stopping you from downloading oracle RDBMS and installing on your pc -- the license states na kung for development purposes unlimited use sya; they start charging once you use it in production. Andami ring documentation sa oracle website mismo. Konting tiyaga sa pagbasa, then T.A.E.(trial and error) method from that point on. Forums and certain sites also help a lot for the more unusual topics/problems(orafaq.com, dbaforums.com)ILuvDetailing: Oracle DBAs OT question, where did you guys study Oracle? So on job training ba? or what? thanks.
Some of the higher level companies should offer training to their employees, pero oracle training and certification doesn't come cheap; at the very least they'll ask you to sign something that ties you to the company for the next 3-5 years or so.
imho, certification is no substitute for experience; i've met a lot of so-called "certified engineers"(oracle consultants included) who couldn't do s#!t once things went wrong na wala sa user manual. By the hour na ang bayad, in $$$ pa, tamad pa magtrabaho, la namang kwenta. A lot of times kami kami na rin ang naghanap ng paraan, and they end up *asking us* for the solutions. Anyways...
Ang sa akin lang, basic features ng oracle are simple enough; once you delve into distributed databases, clusters, performance tuning, yan ung madugo B).
naku! sinong nagkamaling bumili ng oracle financials?!? Oracle makes great rdbms software, no doubt. It's their other products that worries me B)
We get some GPFs once in a while
Thanks Jim!
I agree with badkuk, experience comes first then kung swerte kang makapag-train then ayos!! As mentioned by badkuk once you delve into performance tuning at clustering madugo pero dyan naman tumataas ang rate mo as a dba! I'm lucky I had several in-house trainings sa tuning and I have already implemented a lot of clustered databases and servers in the past. :D
IceColdBeer, good luck. Sana matuloy na talaga yan. Welcome to the Oracle World![]()
Thanks again jim!
Before this ERP brouhaha, we were using a system developed in-house in the US. I am the one handling this system as well as support our offices all over Asia, but it has already come to age and we need to upgrade to be able to cope with the extensive growth and expansion that we have right now.
At least marami ako mapagtatanungan dito hehe ;)
Sorry guys..OT lang po..
150K?whew!, ano ba pinaguusapan natin dito?
