First big fatal accident for the B777 besides the 3 dead in the Asiana Airlines SFO crash...

BBC News - Malaysia Airlines 'loses contact with plane'

Malaysia Airlines says it has lost contact with a plane travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, with 239 people on board.

The airline said in a statement that flight MH370 disappeared at 02:40 local time on Saturday (18:40 GMT on Friday).

It was expected to land in Beijing at 06:30 (22:30 GMT).

"Malaysia Airlines is currently working with the authorities who have activated their search and rescue team to locate the aircraft," the carrier said.

The Boeing B777-200 aircraft was carrying 227 passengers, including two children, and 12 crew members.

It went missing two hours after taking off from Kuala Lumpur.

It was lost in airspace controlled by Vietnam, China's Xinhua state news agency said.

The aircraft did not enter airspace controlled by China and did not make contact with Chinese controllers, the agency added.

Malaysia Airlines has told the BBC it will be holding a press conference later on Saturday.

The airline is the national carrier of Malaysia and one of Asia's largest, flying nearly 37,000 passengers daily to some 80 destinations worldwide.

Though you apologised, I'd still say that are a first class jerk for saying this. I take a lot of these regional flights and to hear of a plane going missing makes me really worried and sad for those who would have family or friends on that flight.

Really hate how some pinoys are happy that there are no filipinos on board the said plane. Regardless of nationality, this is not something anyone should be grateful for. and yeah, that was a douchey thing to say Retz.

Really hoping for a miracle, Lord.

Hindi pa ba fully implemented ang pag allow sa cellphone sa flight?

Anyway sana ma implement na yung pinag aaralan nilang fully computerized and GPS equipped airplanes. Kung ang cellphone nga na nawawala eh may software locator na, eh di sana mas lalo na ang eroplano.

It's simple to say that but it's more complicated than just finding a needle in a haystack.

    ----

If it had crashed, the blackbox has a 30 day battery life and transmits a locating beacon. Now, it's only a matter of time. But remember, it's in the middle of the ocean and thousands of feet under water.

    ----

Tingin ko, terrorism to. That's just me.

    retz......basa.

The phrase 'good riddance' means the action of getting rid of something, without feeling bad about it.

ayan.......alam mo na ha. next time behave ka na.

    patawarin na natin si retz.
