    WTF!

They kicked off Earth Month with this activity?

This caused bottlenecks to form going to Makati and my travel time increased by 45 minutes today.

Makati observes minute of engine silence

    The Philippine Star 04/10/2007

In observance of Earth Month, the Makati City government will require all motorists driving along Ayala Avenue in Makati City to shut off their car engines for exactly one minute at 8 a.m. today.

Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay said the one-minute engine shutoff known as "Tigil Buga" will kick off the city government’s week-long observance of Earth month.

Binay said a motorcade featuring Miss Earth Catherine Untalan and the Miss Earth Philippines 2007 candidates will be held at 7:30 a.m. today along Ayala Ave.

He said the participants will assemble at 6:30 a.m. the Makati Central Fire Station on the corner of Sen. Gil Puyat and Ayala avenues.

"At exactly 8 a.m., a long whistle will be blown to signal the start of the activity," Binay said. "All participating drivers will shut off their engines and pull out the keys of their vehicles. All the participants, including the Miss Earth contestants, will alight from their vehicles and encourage other motorists to also shut off their engines for one minute."

Binay said he will also lead the other city officials and guests at the opening ceremonies of the Earth month rites at the Glorietta activity center at 8:30 a.m.

He said that, at 11 a.m., the reigning Miss Earth and the group The Youth of Tommorow will present gifts to selected elementary school students.

"A fashion show featuring the Miss Earth candidates will follow after the gift presentation," he said. "The candidates will wear gowns made out of recycled materials." – Jose Rodel Clapano

Hindi ba nila naisip na mas matinding pollution ang na-create nito dahil sa sabay sabay na pagstart ng mga engines?

nothing but pure papogi. while they're "saving the planet" along ayala and makati ave., for the grand total of *one single* minute, all the other cars/trucks/buses that got stuck in the traffic they caused belched out pollution for 45 minutes more than what they normally would produce.

mahina ako sa math, but something tells me they did more harm than good yesterday morning.

if they really wanted to clean the air, paghuhulihin nila ung mga smoke belchers, and make the initiative permanent. di ung tipong isang taon lang gagawin, then back to normal na naman. or provide financing for the taxis to convert to lpg.

had to take the bus yesterday, buti na lang maaga ako
