I don't know if this has been talk about it, especially for vehicles in the 3 and up old.

are you the waiting type? pag meron nasira saka na pagawa or are you the type na X number of years for this parts, whether sira or not palitan na.

tires, filters and fluids not included ha... basta consumable commonsense naman na pinapalitan talaga regularly.

ako personally I'm the waiting type, for A/C I don't have it clean annually, pinapliatan ko lang filter and kung meron na nasira ot humina lamig then thats the time I replaced whatever parts na needed palitan.

same with suspensions, pag meron na tumutunog saka na palitan.

As a first time car owner and have minimal to zero knowledge yet on fixing cars, I think I will stick to the manual for now.

I wait for symptoms to pop up. I don't preemptively replace parts unless there's indication of an imminent failure. Then I decide whether to have it repaired or replaced.

So how do you do it? Let's say mga suspension parts ilan years to replace them?

Suspension parts don’t usually break so keeping a certain number of months to replace them may not be a good idea. Shock absorbers, bushings, ball joints, and stabilizer links show tell-tale signs when they need replacement.

There are certain cars which have more robust suspension parts and thus require more time to break down.

Yeah I know, that's I'm also the type that just wait for symptoms to pop up and then replaced them.

Kasi meron yun BMW na maintenance book na palit agad ng parts in X number of years may sira or wala,

Speaking based on exp since you asked suspension.
My other ride has a crappy stock suspension. After 2 or 3 yrs, i swapped it out with aftermarket.
My current ride, im planning on upgrading maybe after a year or two. Not the direct answer you are looking for but this is just me, not being satisfied with stock.

For other parts, i'll just go on to the recommended maintenance / replacement on the manual.

One example i could give though is clutch cable. I replaced it a little bit earlier. (My reasoning is i can still save the old one and put as backup)

I think this is a good topic and should involve consumables as well.

With older cars, I followed the maintenance schedule shown in the manual. With newer cars, the schedule is already programmed in the computer software. I might have an oil change or tune up earlier than scheduled if I was about to go on a road trip. I might do the same if it has been unusually dusty.

I don't wait around until symptoms appear. For example, my wife's car has a CVT. I'm not very trusting of CVTs even though her car's model year has not been included in recalls and the CVT is fine. Bad idea to wait for symptoms of a bad CVT to appear.

That’s crazy. Are you saying that you preemptively have your CVT repaired kahit walang symptoms? What is your basis to service them?

Remember, as per the OP, the assumption is that you’ve been religious with fluid changes.

On older cars where part-sourcing could be a challenge, the basic consumables & parts of the known WHEN-not-the-if-They-Fail kind are stocked in my parts bin.
On steering & suspension rehab, I'd do all in 1 go, instead of replacing just the isolated parts & having another crack at it when some other bit clunks & goes. This way, I'd grab the new car silence, ride & drive back.[emoji4]
Most, from religious PMS to mystery huntdowns, would be DIY except for the couple on Mazda's Yojin care.
Cars here stay...for decades, some. Effort worthy? That's seldom measured when passion & happiness dictate. The bonus of proper care & use? Loyal service.[emoji4]

this is the mineral oil type? i didnt know that mineral oil can be use for 1.5 years before replacing? saken i usually change it yearly kahit hinde pa inabot ng 5k yun tinakbo.

    BTT:
noon nag sisimula pa sa kotse, i wait for symptoms to come out before replacing pero minsan grabe kasi may ibang parts nadadamay lalo na pag suspension, tuloy tuloy ang pilit, bushing, ball joint, rocker arm tapos minsan pati shocks.

on engine parts if i feel something not right sa makina i usually have it check and replace, mahilig kasi ako noon mag out of town trip mahirap na masiraan sa kawalan.

I also use to buy replacement parts or surplus, kaso one time nung pinalitan ko starter and solenoid muntik na ako itirik sa San Fernando Pampanga at 10pm. buti konting dasal lang umandar naman ulet. after that i always buy original parts kahit mahal mas may peace of mind.

Suspension..

Body panels kapag may dent/binangga, PDR as early as possible

Detailing..

Mechanicals.. Replace asap kasi madami madadamay iba kapag hindi inayos kaagad. (based on experience)

(During t-belt removal, re-grease fan, replace water pump)

In my experience, there are replacement parts that lasted longer than original parts. Like in the case of G4's wheel bearing and radiator fan motor and other parts. Also, engine air filters, as long as you change them regularly (mine every 3mos)... Will come out more economical.
