here's my take on the topic...

    1. Remember the scene where the orcs were posiitoned outside Helm's Deep? Why did Aragorn tell the archers to hold their fire? Wouldn't it make sense to let the archers fire at will as soon as they got in range? Why wait for them to get organized, come into formation, and get dangerously close?
i agree with you. if i remember the movie correctly, they were already formed below the wall when aragorn gave the order to fire. they came into range long before they stopped marching. bad decision by aragorn. i guess this is just another one of peter jackson's faults.

    2. Ehen the orcs managed to blow up a section of the wall, the archers were doing a good job holding them back. Why on earth did Aragorn tell them to charge the orcs? They could have held them at a distance with arrows, but instead they got their skinny asses kicked by twice-as-big orcs...
holding back a wall breach indefinitely through archer fire is not possible even in real life, not when the attacking force outnumbers you 20 to 1. tama si mazda2x, pikes dapat ang holding force sa ganitong situation. but since the defenders didn't have any organized spear infantry, charging the breach is better. pero mali yung naging direction ng battle since the breach was a bottleneck and the elves being superior fighters should've held back the uruk-hai longer.

    3. Why did Gandalf run off to fetch Eomyr, when he could have easily turned the tide at Helm's Deep if he just stayed put and blasted the orcs with magic? He's a white wizard di ba?
yes, gandalf could've held off the attacking army since he is of the maiar. but the wizards were forbidden to use their full power when they were sent to middle earth in the beginning of the third age.

    4. why was the only weak section of Helm's Deep -- the drain where the orcs placed the mines/bombs -- left unguarded? Even if the orcs didn't have any bombs, they could have rammed the fence a few times and get through(although it'd be tough squeezing orcs through that opening)
the defenders simply overlooked that part of the wall. poor writing by tolkien, not peter jackson's fault.

    5. Why didn't Elrond send additional troops after sending the first one?
since wala talagang elves na kasama dun, matuwa ka na at may sinama sa movie :D eheheheh.

    ------
here's what really happened (from Wikipedia)

The forces of Saruman, Orcs and Uruk-hai together with human Dunlendings, arrived at the valley of Helm's Deep in the middle of the night. They quickly scaled over the first defense, Helm's Dike, and attempted to break down the fortress's gate with a battering ram. But Aragorn, Éomer, and some other Rohirrim attacked, scattering the forces threathening the doors.

The Orcs and Dunlendings then raised hundreds of ladders to scale the wall. Aragorn and Éomer had to repeatedly move the defenders, who were getting weary, to repel the Orcs coming up the ladders and crossing the wall. However, some Orcs had crept in though a culvert which let a stream out of Helm's Deep, and while the defenders were busy with the assault on the wall, they suddenly attacked, having made it past the wall. The defenders quickly reacted and drove back the Orcs, and the culvert was blocked up under supervision by Gimli.

However, the enemies reentered the culvert and caused an explosion using a device of Saruman's. This made a wide hole in the wall, and Saruman's forces could not be stopped. The defenders retreated to the Glittering Caves and to the Deep. Soon Saruman's forces used their blasting fire to gain entrance to the Deep. At this moment, however, the horn of Helm's Deep was sounded, and after a moment a sortie led by Théoden and Aragorn rode forth, followed by men on foot. Théoden and Aragorn cut through the Orcs and Dunlendings and arrived at Helm's Dike.

Both armies then noticed that many trees, Huorns, had moved to block a possible escape route for the Orcs. Then Gandalf, Erkenbrand, and a thousand riders arrived, and charged. The Dunlendings were so terrified of Gandalf that they could no longer fight. The Orcs lost control and ran into the trees, where the Huorns destroyed them. Thus, Rohan won the battle.

After the battle those Dunlendings who surrendered were given amnesty by King Théoden and allowed to return to home. The Rohirrim required that all hostilities cease, and that the Dunlendings retreat behind the Isen river again. The slain Dunlendings were buried in a mound of their own apart from the Orc carcases.

btw, to me the real biggest question in LOTR is:

ano ba talaga ang relationship ni Sam with his "master" Frodo?? :naughty:

theveed:Why not make all your orcs like the guy that Aragorn beheaded sa part 1?
the way i see it, the orcish troops were motivated mainly by fear -- of saruman, sauron, and more directly, their CO. kung lahat ng troops e kasing laki at kasing sungit nung napugutan ni Aragorn, chances are they would've killed each other long before they reached Helm's Deep. i guess they need a few orcs that are bigger and meaner to keep the troops in check B).
