ok naman ang jeep a. nasa driver lang talaga yan. kapag sumasakay nga ako sa espana, mas masarap pa sumakay ng jeep kasi kung FX, lalo na yung box na tamaraw, sobrang init na. agawan na sa aircon vent. at least yung jeep, laki ng bintana. kung polusyon ang usapan, ganun na din yun, kasi pagbaba mo ng sasakyan, FX or jeep, pawis pa rin yun. mas fresh ka nga lang kung sa fx na malamig ang aircon ka bababa.

Nagtataka naman ako, bakit nari-rehistro pa yung mga kakarag-karag na jeep. Dapat tinatanggihan na mga ito ng LTO. Marami akong nakikita na bumibiyahe pa, pero halos hihiwalay na yung katawan, pero nabiyahe pa. Pero i-check mo yung LTO sticker niya, 2006 pa.

Jeepney is not our National Pride since it's not really part of our culture. It simply evolved because of the need for PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. If we didn't had any jeepneys, puro BUS ang laman ng kalsada natin.

Sa America, one drawback when you are living in the suburbs is the lack of public transportation. A car is a necessity. Dahil sa hirap ng buhay sa Pilipinas at makipot pa ang mga kalsada, requiring everyone to buy a car is not even practical. That's why the jeepney has survived.

Necessity is the mother of the jeepney.

Aesthetically, I think old Jeepneys looked much better than the new ones, there were still a few of them running around in the early 90's.

PS: the car on the left is a 1963 Plymouth Valiant the van on the right side of the photo is an early 70's VW Type2 Kombi aka "Bus".

I think these are the chasis that was use after WWII. May konting extension lang. yan yung orig.

Todays "10" seater jeeps are made from raw material talaga and uses the design of light truck

Sarao almost or at least go into bankruptcy because almost all employee in the company wants to have their own jeepney manufaturing shop.

Even in the business side hindi naging maganda ang mentality.

Hay. I wish we had a leader strong enough to effect the modernization of our public transport system. The MRT/LRT is a start. We need strategically-located terminals or drop-offs so that hindi magiging problema ang pag-lalakad papunta sa sakayan. Maybe put more underground walkways a'la Makati-Ayala. Tapos, you can just use the Hi-Ace Commuter type vehicles which are safer and more comfortable for the riding public. This is not necessarily bad for those who will no longer be plying their jeeps. They can form their own transport cooperatives so that they can field modern vehicles. Hindi naman talaga lahat pwedeng pumasok sa pamamamsada.

Noong late 70's dito sa Pasig/Rizal route pag "Patok"
ang jeepney madaling mapuno lalo na sa estudyante. Ang modelo ng MelFord at Fairlane ang sikat noon bukod sa maporma at malinis pati sa stereo ay pagandahan din sila, hindi pa ma traffic kaya natutuwa pa kami pag nag ba bunking ang driver. Pero ngayon halos karamihan ay bulok na ang pumapasada.

IMO, it is a Philippine icon. it symbolizes the Filipino's inguenity and festive and colorful spirit. pero relic na yan! i agree that they should be in museums, not the city streets. the desoto cabs were rolling symbols of new york city, but were phased out because they were no longer practical and viable. you have to move with the times, or get left behind.

honestly, i really didn't think about it or probably don't care about the question. but jeepneys are a necessity, now. if they can be replaced with something better, why not. hirap kaya pumunta ng quiapo, recto at divisoria na naka-kotse :D

The Japanese copied jeeps c/o Mitsubishi Willys. They improved and develop it to the Pajeros of today. We had Sarao and Francisco Motors copy them too, but they still make them the way they use too...

Though Sarao and Francisco Motors Corp. made jeepneys, it was only Sarao that got stuck in the '60s. Their manufacturing process was crude and archaic. They manufacture a single product that has not advanced since its conception. Made no innovations to their maiin product. Probably why there is no Sarao Motors today.

On the other hand, FMC, though starting with jeepneys, improved their manufacturing process. Though not up to the robotic standards of the Japanese or the Koreans or even the Malaysians, it had machine presses and an assembly line and was light years ahead of the stationary 'puk-pok' and weld style of the Saraos. Enough to roll out some new products of their own, including an indigenous AUV (forgot the name) made with some Mazda pickup parts. FMC eventually became the exclusive distributor of the the B2500 pickup. There were even plans of assembling Mazda vehicles in their Las Pinas plant that they took out a HUGE loan to finance the upgrading of their plant. Alas, Mazda was gobbled up by Ford which came to the Phils. and started selling the Ranger pickup (which was just a re-badged B2500). FMC sued Ford, Phils. for bringing in the Ranger reasoning that the Ranger is the same as the B2500 to which FMC is the exclusive distributor. FMC lost. After that, I have no idea what state FMC is now in.

Don't generalise. Though Sarao got stuck in the last century and paid the price by not surviving, there are some forward-thinkers out there. If FMC had some bit of luck, who knows where it might lead to? Maybe FMC-badged cars?

i remember last year, enroute to mt polis, sagada area. i was riding top load on a jeep with our bikes, pagtingin ku sa side straight down bangin hehe arangkada pa yung jeep kasi paahon

IMO... for major streets in Metro Manila, jeepneys should be replaced with buses / mini buses like what they did in EDSA. limit though the # of operators per line.

a. bonifacio, shaw, ortigas, taft, etc. are prime candidates for me.

use only the jeepneys for short routes.
