The epitome of a nations success.
    Rugged spacious powerful
    (No maintenance needed)
    The Philippine Jeepney

We cant deny it. Its part of our culture. Jeepney is been with us after WWII. It might be true that our ingenuity(Now how do you spell that|? hehehe)had help us recover after the war. But Its been Decades and still Jeepney still remain the same. We Still have no National Car. other neighboring countries have their own car. Indonesia Had one. Malaysia is coming back with proton
vietnam seems to be doing in car manufacturing.

    Whats in a jeep anyway?

Crowded. The last passenger should sit only one of his or her butt cheek.

Barbaric Drivers. As another driver in the street I must say that 80% of jeepneys does not respect trafficc signs. If your in an open intersection and your on the redside and a jeep is beside you. theres a 90% chance that it would ignore the sign.
Some even are disrespectful to their passenger and to trafficc enforcers.

Pollution. Jeepneys has got to be the most neglected piece of equipment in this counrty. There are rules alright but nobodyseems to care.
Road worthy. At night maybe only 2 out of 10 has the proper or required light for safety.

    Of course
Cheap fare or is it? at P7.50 for the first 5 kilometer?I dont think so.
    Symbol of National Pride?
I dont know seems to me that its a symbol of lawlessness

I just pass by this Tourist shop and saw this little toy jeepneys that they are selling. And I wondered. Is Jeepney really something to be proud of as of this time?

Ok so i made this bec. everytime I bike commute jeepneys would cut me off like am not in existence

Nah, not really. Doesn't matter, the oldskool style jeepneys, the multicab/tamaraw/converted truck jeepneys, et al. They're all rubbish.

Ako iniiwasan ko nang mag dyip, pag papunta akong Manila nagbu-bus ako, halos pareho lang ang pamasahe (kahit A/C). O kaya nagte-tren. I'm fond of the LRT-2, even if it'll cost me 10 pesos more to get to Sampaloc from Diliman heheheh.

Why should people be proud of it in the first place? It's not like it's an innovation or anything, they're just junk WW2 Jeeps with colorful paint.

They're also the epitome of road discourtesy in this country.

    historically---yes

    technologically---no

it is basically an engine on a body... nothing more nothing less...

i think it would be better if one of tsikot's seasoned testdriver/writer will do a performance evaluation on our jeep in terms of: comfort, suspension, styling, ergonomics(kng meron man) etc..

i wonder what they will have to say...

Yup. The Jeep is a dinosaur, well deserving of a burial. Too bad we don't have the political will to enforce a total ban on these rolling coffins.

jeepney drivers are discourteous only when you are riding in your car. when you are the jeepney driver or jeepney passenger, it is the car drivers who are the "mayabang" and discorteous ones, especially when cars honk horns when caught behind in traffic.

jeepneys are junk and rubbish when you are inside your brand new airconditioned sedan or suv. to the riding public it is a work of art, a proof of filipino "can do".

i guess it all it all depends on where at you are looking from.

Hehehe. I wonder if the posters above have ridden a jeep in their life. :D You may not be proud for the jeep but how about the services it gives to you both indirectly and directly like the transportation(buses doesn't ply all MM roads) your employees uses when going to work in your factory, shops, etc.

The Jeepney is a Dinosaur... A relic of the past... It should no longer be plying the streets, but should, instead, be inside a museum where it can be admired properly (and safely).

Fair enough. Kahit na sinusubukan kong hindi na mag tricycle sa probinsya (dahil Php14 per head!) at maglakad na lang, di ko parin talaga maiwasan na gawin ito sa MM. At nagdi-dyip parin ako galing Recto hanggang Sampaloc (no choice heheheh).

Obyus na tinamaan diba? Well I did make a comment about avoiding the jeepneys. The jeepneys definitely have a lot of room for improvement, first and formost, that goddamned cramped driving position that doesn't allow anyone about 3 feet to drive comfortably (but has the interesting side-effect of a HUGE engine bay).

I ride the jeep and bus 3-4x a week to work, how I wish these people could stop stopping in the wrong places, have more logic and courtesy to the other drivers beside them, etc.

In addition, the commuting Filipinos are just too damn lazy. If people just get their butts off a block or two sooner, instead of waiting for the jeep/trike/bus to move 100 meters just so that they can get off nearer to the street they want to walk to, then there wouldn't be as much traffic, would it...

    My statement stands.

Yes, I'm looking at both sides of the coin..

Unless there would be an effective and cheap land-transportation system the the masses can use, most espectially the poor folk, and unless there are alternative livelihoods or new work that can be provided to the jeepney drivers that would be put out of work if and when jeepneys would be put to pasture, the jeepney would be a common site in our country's roads for a long-long time IMO.

Consider: Japan is a highly-industrialized nation, and yet you can still see rickshaws on certain areas. Thailand is a more industrialized and wealthy nation than the Philippines, and yet tuk-tuks abound in the streets of Bangkok. I'm not comparing the jeepney to rickshaws or tuk-tuks: all I'm saying is that there would be transportation systems that would be hard to get rid off because it would earn the ire of the masses (almost especially in poor/developing countries) that could be a problem to the incumbent government - and no government wants a problem from majority of the people they are trying to govern. In our country, the poor and the masses who use the jeepney for their daily transport easily outnumber private vehicle owners and the FX-riding public.

Remember, former President Ramos tried to implement this but he had the foresight to see that if he pushes through with phasing out the jeepney, it could start an anarchy of sorts because he would be depriving the greater many of afforable/cheap transportation.

Kudos to Yebo for making a point quite elloquently. I agree with you - it depends on where you are looking from.

Tama ka boybi hehe... Jeeps don't drive themselves.

I'm not for phasing out jeeps unless there is a viable alternative to their livelyhood, I just hope that traffic enforcers enforce the law and for these PUV drivers to be dicipline... but thats wishfull thinking. Years after years of dealing with them, well I just got used so used to them breaking every possible traffic law in the book, manhid na ako sa ginagawa nila to a point that I get surprised if they give way or stay in the proper lane Konting pasensya lang. Thats what I've learned no use in getting riled up in something we can't control.

actually mga pre aside from the ancient arguments, mas importante yung safety aspect, which this vehicle lacks. while other people are putting crumple zones in cars, jeepney makers put battering rams in front. also, pag naka head on ito, talsikan ang pasahero sa loob. been in one. not good.

Nicolodeon is right. Without any alternative mass transportation or alternative livelihood for the drivers, the jeepney is here to stay. Look at the LRT line from Taft to Monumento, you would still note there are a lot of jeepneys plying the route under the LRT line.

The LTFRB should study all routes made by jeepneys. For example, Shaw Blvd is being serviced by probably 10 different lines, that is why its congested. A study should be made so that new lines can replace the old ones and in turn there would be less traffic and passengers could get to their destinations quicker.

more rail transits and less of these rolling junks, they are the main causes of traffic but if you dont have a vehicle no choice but to ride one

Is Jeepney still something to be proud of?
