Filipino time, culture. But do we get a free pass at work for being late because it's our culture? Of course not. If I am late for a meeting and I offend someone because to her I did not respect her time, I'm in the wrong. I can't reason out that it's our culture to be late.

if it is clearly written in the rule book, it is difficult to hide behind cultural discrepancy.

I think it is how a person were raised and disciplined, I'm always on time, sometimes late but bihira lang, that's how my dad raised me, when I was in school, he will ask me what time we're going back home, and if I was late more than 10 minutes, he will scold me and will lecture us on how time is gold, so when I grew up, I see to it that I'm 20 or 30 minutes earlier or sometimes an hour earlier to a meeting, if I'm late for the first meeting due to traffic, I'll guarantee you that the 2nd meeting that I'll arrive on time. Problem with this kind of habit is, whenever you're going to be late you feel very agitated and stressed out and it's not good when you're driving, that's why I go out very very early and I already planned out the route and time of departure the night before.

I always thank our suppliers and business partners if they come in early or on time for the meeting. If they're late, I remind them that we always start on time in the office.

Once I was late for five minutes, I apologized to all of the attendees. No excuses. (I actually overran a previous meeting because of the many issues we faced, which needed direction and/or resolution)....
