My problem is I don't think I can get a boss as nice as my current one. And my boss moved heaven and earth to promote my role so I am doing the same staff job but they upgraded it to officer. They also gave me a hefty bonus last year when the rest of the staff had so little to nil. So I appreciate those things. It's just that I'm not excited to interact with my boss anymore. I used to be so happy when he gives me tasks. Now I am irritated when he does that.

I also got a good bonus and the highest increase among my colleagues last year, but that didn't mean that I was getting the most competitive offer in the market.

I gave up my chill 3-4 day work week for more learning and growth opportunities, with the corresponding compensation.

It depends on what you prioritize, if you enjoy being in your comfort zone for the rest of your career that's okay. I personally decided to be uncomfortable because you don't grow as fast in a comfy environment as you do in an environment that stretches you. Of course, it's possible that I'll get burned out from the fast-paced career path, at which point I can always go back to my chill life.

On the topic of the boss though, it's really a big factor. When I was with my good boss for 2 years, it was enough of a deterrent for me to forgo job offers I got at the time. When I was having a hard time with my new boss, I entertained job interviews and fortunately it led to a good offer so I jumped ship. If I didn't go through that rocky stage with my new boss I wouldn't have even interviewed in the first place.

I have a very capable boss and we have worked well together in the past (which got me to my position) however I got spread too thinly due to the wide scope and did not meet the standards of the job as of late due to the multitude of roles and people to handle at the same time. Part of the work i took on is not really the forte of my boss so we currently don't see eye-to-eye on certain things, and definitely my peers who have work that is more focused on his field have better relations. I don't dwell much on these before but from this experience i really see how working relations with your superior really affects your outlook and motivation. I made further adjustments to my work plan and targets this year and if things don't pan out then i will start reconsidering my career. This is my second company in 14 years (although i've had numerous postings within each company) and I would only move when i felt i could learn or contribute more elsewhere and there is opportunity to do so; this is the first time i am considering a move because of relations with my superiors (who are not terrible bosses per se but we're not on the same page of the book these past few years so i don't see as much priority or support coming my way, which is something every employee should always feel to deliver well).

I have to admit that my boss let's me get away with a lot of things. I like that I have a lot of freedom at work. I'm feeling a little better now since he sent me an email tonight. I was also approached for help by an AVP and I knew it was because my boss said I'm the best person to talk to hehehe.
