MANILA, Philippines - The Sy-led BDO Unibank Inc. on Monday said it has acquired the Rural Bank of San Juan Inc. (RBSJI), subject to certain conditions, after getting approvals from Philippine monetary officials.
Under the memorandum of agreement, BDO Unibank Inc. will assume RBSJI's liabilities and recorded assets.
The transaction is seen to be completed by end-July this year, upon compliance with the closing conditions under the agreement.
Founded in 1953, RBSJI operates as a rural bank with 30 branches in Metro Manila and Luzon -- the largest branch network for a rural bank in the country.

Majority of the money don't all come from their department stores, it comes also comes from their shop rental business in their malls and his ownership of Banco de Oro and Chinabank. OB, I'm sure Henry Sy is having sleepless nights if you haven't bought anything from his business. What's a few thousands compared to the billions he makes each year...

i'm sure the Sy's are having sleepless nights if they knew how Walmart is losing so much in the states right now from online transactions

Yeah as if the majority of Filipinos who live below the poverty line have actual access to the internet and credit cards...

where many of them sees going to Jollibee as a big treat...

OB comparing a industrialized country with the banana republic again...

I'm sure online transaction is causing havoc to SM's business model...

which local online shopping website is a threat to SM?

ayosdito? sulit? yung mga discount coupon sites?

sa States obvious Amazon is killing Best Buy. tawag nga sa Best Buy Amazon's showroom

eh dito? there arent that many online shoppers in the Phils.

there's no standardized payment system. no standardized delivery system. and not everyone has a credit card

di pa mature ang online shopping infrastructure dito compared sa US

meron pa nga meet-up transactions dito. ang primitive no?

madami nga independent sellers dito. individuals who operate home-based businesses na nagpopost sa sulit and ayosdito. those are hardly a threat to retailers like SM, Puregold etc

online shopping? malayo pa ang Pinas dude

Maybe what OB is saying is since online shopping is still at infancy here, malaki potential na lumaki so SM is now looking in the future for them to better prepare or join the fray

Then SM shouldn't be worrying as OB suggest since they already have the right ingredients to practically corner the online shopping market.

so all SM has to do is create its own online shopping business

advantage of SM is they already have the physical assets

yung sinasabi ni OB hard disk lang kailangan? as if

if you're gonna be a big online shopping site you need big distribution centers

    like this (Amazon):

as if kahit sino meron puhunan gumawa ng Amazon equivalent dito sa Pinas

if there's a company with the resources to do that it's SM

    they got the real estate

    they got the goods

if people stop going to SM's dept stores and supermarkets/hypermarts SM can convert those to distribution centers

and knowing SM's style, they'll probably acquire a courier company (LBC or JRS) for logistics

and they already own the payment infrastructure -- BDO

Tama naman si OB. Harddisk lang kelangan. If may mag order sa kanya online, i-order nya rin sa amazon No need for big warehouses.

    haha

    pero abono niya muna

    charge sa credit card niya

tapos hintay more than a month bago ma-receive ng customers ang binili nila

kasi pupunuin pa ang mga balikbayan box sa bahay ng US relative niya then ipapadala dito

    haha
