generally speaking, do we really need high-power assault rifles for home defense? They seem cumbersome to draw out in a home invasion situation...and baka mapatay mo pa kapitbahay mo sa over-penetration :D

^They are NOT assault rifles. Assault rifles have select fire capability to switch from semi-auto to full auto. Those found in the civilian market are ONLY semi-auto.

.223/5.56 is NOT a high power round. It is an intermediate round. A high power round would be .50 BMG or purpose built sniper rounds.

In a home defense scenario, you'd want either a pistol or an SBR because they're ideal for CQB. Because of its short barrel length, the projectile is much slower. Hence, overpenetration is the least of your worries.

believe it or not, this is classified as a pistol:

^^^ in the philippines even civilians are allowed to own select fire weapons. even machine guns. i think you confuse US gun laws to be the same as RP laws.

^I'm just throwing that out because I generally hate hearing the term "assault" weapon and "high powered" ammunition.

The US allow ownership of those also you just have to file documents with ATF pay the fee(enjoy the lighter wallet) and wait several months(forget about it and just think of it as a loan to the ATF) then you'll be able to have the weapon released to you by your FFL.

No such thing as an assault rifle, people assault people not guns. Swords are not called assault swords and they are used to kill and assault people. The term assault rifle is US media created to put fear into the public not educated in handling firearms. All firearms regardless of handgun/rifle/shotgun have the same ability to kill, some may do it with more efficiency than others but they all have the same result.

    * safeorigin-Imported AK still have to be 922R compliant but US built AK's are not subject to 922R so I can modify as much as I want without issue of violating the law if I add a none US made part.

that is actually what I'm talking about. What I meant less "commie" parts was in the previous years, you'd have to rely on surplus barrels but now, the barrels are just as effective, if not more durable and are more utilized. what I'm seeing from Imported AK's with surplus kits are just the imported trunnions, gas block and bolt carrier group.

anyway, what I'm seeing C39 owners do with their stock is saw off the bottom part so you can fit aftermarket stuff.

I'm itching to add one more to my collection. What should it be? Sig Sauer X-Five or a Sphinx SDP?

In that scenario or any life or death situation, my preference is still be a modern autoloader pistol. A wheel gun is just too limited in capacity. With an active shifting target, more ammo means more chance of stopping the object from advancing. While panicking, there is also a tendency for me to fumble while reloading a revolver (if there is no speedloader). And follow up shots won't be as easy with the untamed nature of a revolver. Unless I have the skill and dexterity of Jerry Miculek

Perhaps the jamming problem in the autoloader(five seven) can be attributed to the ammo itself since it's a pretty long shell compared to other pistol rounds such as the 9mm Luger: 28mm vs. 19mm.

Then have both so you can change weapon when your pistol jammed. I have a 38 special revolver and a 9mm pistol. Kaya lang pala we are only permitted to carry only one. Wala rin kung nasa kalye ka carrying only a single weapon (pistol) and it jammed.

No need to carry multiple weapons. Being familiar with the operation of your main firearm is extremely critical. If your semi-auto pistol jammed during a firefight and can't be solved with a T.R.B. that means 3 things:1.the gun is mechanically flawed, 2. ammunition is a dud, and 3. the operator is not well trained.

That's why weapons education is a must for every gun owner. Guns are not display pieces or safe queens. They are purpose built tools. But, I must admit, some in my collection are simply meant to be stared at... lol

Yep. I am legal to bring my guns with me outside my home.

One major cause of jamming is limp wristing or holding the pistol too high that your thumb/s is impeding complete slide cycle. Another cause of failure is if the gun is filthy or rusted such that the slide is too rough or clogged.

I dunno, I may experiment with a Chiappa Rhino soon. I just have this pet peeve with high bore axis pistols >.>

Got confused there. Chiappa Rhino actually have very low bore axis. It almost lines up with the shooter's wrist bone. I'm interested with this too because of its oddness but have not auditioned one to merit personal ownership value. Let us know what you think?

With 5.7x28mm nearly hard to find or expensive to shoot, can our very own 22 TCM micromag stack up squarely with the FN round?
